Rolex DSSD back from service

No Major news here to report. Just thought I would share that after several years of regular wear, my DSSD had very little power reserve, so I had my AD send it in for me. Even though they are an authorized service center, they do not have the equipment needed to pressure test the DSSD so it went to Lititz. I was told 8-12 weeks….it took 4! From the day I dropped it off at my AD until the day it came back was only 4 weeks, no fingerprints on the dial, no misalignment of hands, etc
The watch has been completely overhauled, $750, nice leather carrying pouch, new service card, 2 year warranty, Ready to wear.
No drama, fast service, reasonable cost.
That’s all….just wanted to share.

Thanks. I am very pleased. All went the way it should. Now, if we could get back to normal availability, it will be like the old days.

Glad things went well and your watch is back to you.

For the benefit of other members considering future service, did you have your watch polished? If yes, please share your experience and more photos.

Paul, thank you for your response, and good question. The funny thing is that when I dropped my watch at the AD, I had no intention of specifying either way, but when the rep was taking my watch in, she specifically said “doesn’t look like it needs polished, but it’s up to you”. That actually made me give it a quick look and I agreed. I tend to clean and wipe down my watch watches regularly and I didn’t see a need for it, so she specified no polish.

A good looking watch and I am sure you are glad to have it back. Also, nice to see a good report. Many times it seems that all we get are the bad reports. Enjoy.

I did the exact same thing two months ago. Directly to Dallas Service center. Very happy with their service. Was able to walk in 4 weeks prior to pick up. I picked it up at 4:55 p.m. the last day they allow walkin-ins. Kinda sad, actually.

My DSSD was polished and came with the same leather pouch and 2 year warranty. Looks amazing, already have dings and scratches all over it, and is running like a champ!

My cost was closer to 900 with Tax. But mechanically my DSSD would not adjust date or time, ran perfectly time wise.

Interesting. Mine was keeping near perfect time still, but the power reserve was next to nothing.

Good news! Service cost was less than I thought it would be. Makes sense to price the service based on movement complications, but at one point I was told the pressure testing for the DSSD was kind of a big deal and only a few RSCs could do it. I assumed extra $$$ was involved for that.

Agreed. The DSSD is a different animal and only two locations in the US can service it. I was also pleasantly surprised at the cost. Was figuring $1,000-$1,200. Very pleased.

My wife’s watch ref. 78240 dropped off at the same DSSD was the exact same cost to service. They both were complete overhauls.

What’s cool is both came back polished and with the 2 year warranty cards. Holds them next to your phone and they give you the service details. Not the camera QR code, but the NPC.

Yes! I like the new card as well. Great idea to keep the history of the watch

I think for the pressure testing that baddie needs $750 is a great price.

I'm glad to hear they did a good job with a quick turnaround. Great stuff.

I'm just a little bit surprised about the power reserve drop. How old is your DSSD? Is it the 3135 based 116660 or the latest 126660/136660 mounting the 3235?

It’s the 116660, over 10 years old.
A more accurate description would probably be that the rotor was not working as it should. If manually wound it would still run as normal.

Awesome that you have it back and sooner than quoted

Does it fit into that Rolex pouch?

I remember trying to fit my SD43 into one of those and it was a struggle…

Yep, the new pouches have a little more come and go.
Maybe Rolex didn't want to be found lacking when it came to returning the Deepsea Challenge watch after service.
The old felt pouch was a little squeezy for a DSSD but still sort of adequate for a travel pouch at a pinch.

Gorgeous DSSD--I prefer all black like yours. Had the JC version--just, too, much.
