A couple of clarifications on the BP FF...
- the strap is kevlar reinforced canvas, which is fancy talk for sail-cloth as in sailing boats, and the part that comes into contact with the wrist is natural unscented rubber, bonded to the kevlar. it's not absorbent from my close inspection of the watch a couple weeks ago. - i have relatively small wrists, but i've never measured them (i wear my rolex with one link removed and the pushpin moved to the second hole on the clasp) and the FF is fantastically proportioned once on the wrist. - the movement is not based on Piguet, it's an in-house automatic caliber 3135 or something, and has a five day power reserve. the winding mechanism is supposed to be very very efficient. - the watch is also anti-magnetic to the same degree as the Milgauss, this was part of the design brief for the original FF I think it's a cool watch, and despite it's size, works beautifully due to the slenderness of the watch on the wrist, and virtually perfect proportions. I would have bought it if I hadn't bought my FP Journe. |

Knowing your affinity for the always-here-then-gone SD, I'd get yourself a keeper in that arena!

Go,
I know you have been lusting after the day date as well but it is out of your price range so it makes sense to go for the dj. what about this, a new dj and used SD. You mentioned something about reservations about the background of blanchpain, well omega are cut from the same cloth! By the way thay seamaster has never done anything for me, it looks cheap! So first choice I reckon would be a DJ, that would satisfy your thirst is some ways for the look of the DD, if you can stretch it then get a used SD as well. remember, you have a sport watch in the daytona! Good luck any way, follow what your heart tells! Oh yes, I saw the GMTC the other day, nice enough but a bit blingy for me, I hope Rolex does not decide on the ceramic bezel for all it's sports watches, that and on that model I do not like the polished center links. Oh and one last thought, flip both the daytona and GMT and get your grail DD! |

Bo, you've been talking about getting another SD since you flipped the last one. If I went through your posts (i.e. quit my job), I bet it would be within 10 days that you posted about getting another SD. And you've posted about it at least two or three times a week since then.
GET THE SD. Then you'll flip the Daytona and get the 116234 (and maybe the FF as well--but I'd push you towards the white Expy).

Bo,
Good luck with your decision. I know what a fan you are of the SD and how you've been lusting after that DJ. So in my opinion one of those two would be the right choice. I hope you make the right decision for you. |

I don't know what I would do yet. One thing for sure is I would wait to do anything until Basel.

WHAT THE? Just when I convinced myself NOT to trade my IIC for an SD. I'm going to hang onto mine Bo. It's my first Rolex and my son (he's 3) thinks it's his already.
With the Fifty Fathoms, you ready for a 45mm watch that only comes on a semi durable strap? 120 hour power reserve is awesome, but. . . The only watch outside Rolex that has my interest is the JLC Master Diver Pro GMT. Too bad it's in Ti only or else I'd probably have one. |

I think that since you have the daytona, you need something with a date. I think the SD would be best because it can serve as your "do everything" watch. The DJ is really nice as well though and wouldn't be a bad choice either - just a bit more fragile than the SD.

Not sure if folks here are voting for what's best for you or just what THEY like best. Perhaps it would help if you explained better what it is you're looking for and, more importantly, what your current stable doesn't fulfill for you. In addition, what is it you miss about your old SD that draws you back to it? You also have publicly 'lusted' over the DD on several occasions. What is it that attracts you to it? The physical or the ethereal? Compared to the Blancpain, we're talking apples and oranges here...

I would keep the GMTIIC, but if you're not happy with it, I would certainly go for the SD. I love that watch.

Bo, take a look here to scratch your Fifty Fathoms itch. Very nice cost effective option.
http://www.mkiiwatches.com/WSWrapper...=cd02ch_60.htm I know you lust for the DD, so I think you need to pickup the Datejust. After wearing the Stingray for a little while you can decide between the real thing and the SD. Good Luck

I voted for the DJ, Bo. You've had the SD before and somehow you got tired of it.....and then sold it. So why would you buy it again?
Get that gorgeous DJ on the new Jubilee.....absolutely stunning!!

What I miss about the SD? I'm not a big fan of the cyclops. Not on sport's Rolex watches! On a DJ the cyclops is mandatory, however, so I can live with having the cyclops on that one. Furthermore, I like the SD because it's very understanded, much less so than the more blingy GMT IIc with the ceramic bezel insert (that I just couldn't get used to!). Also, I don't care much for the way too overengineered clasp. The Daytona clasp is much simpler made. And the SD is VERY simple, but WORKS! The DD? I just love the feeling of warm gold (and its weight) on my wrist. But I wouldn't pick ANY DD. I would only go for the one I have posted pics of hundreds of times here (118238, silver dial, SL "sticks" indices). Quote:
As what the DJ is concerned: I have also had a couple of those before (although it was 16234's and one 16220), but I never liked the OLD Jubiliee bracelet (simply too loose in its overall construction, IMHO. As with the DD I mention above, the ONLY DJ I would buy is the 116234, silver dial, SL sticks indices). I am very drawn to the NEW Jubilee bracelet. VERY well made! But somehow the SS Cos and a DJ would be a too dressy combo for me? So at the moment I am more on the SD or Blancpain side.

I say go for a Glashutte Original (another Swatch brand). It's something you haven't flipped yet, would be easier to get rid of unlike the FF from a dealer you don't care for.
I also agree you should wait to buy till after Basel.

As always this will be a tough decision. However, based on your prior posts I think your heart is still with the SD. Its the watch that I would go with if I were your. Its a great piece and your continued desire for one is well known. Hard choices as always, best of luck Bo!

In my opinion...
...I would go for a good used SD and keep my eyes out for another toy.
The FF looks nice but I think I'd get bored fairly quickly. I'm not a fan of the DJ / DD so that's an easy exclusion if I was in your shoes. My collection is now a white Daytona (like you), a modern SD, a 40 year old 5513 Sub. The perfect blend of modern & vintage, casual & smart, black & white. Good luck in whatever you choose. Cheers - Simon |

SD.... KNOW THE PRODUCT and easier to flip if Basel shows a 40mm case DJ ( I just have a feeling)..
Blancplain....too quirky with what sounds like an AD that may make life difficult and although I could be totally wrong here just seems like it would be harder to flip... That combo of DJ is truly classy! Not much help am I R |
