Don't wear your rolex to philly....

I know....dog bites man....

But Philly.... record homicides in 2021, and also a bad place to wear your Rolex lately. Heard these news stories on the radio the last few days (I live in the area)

Horrible place we're in right now. My fiance and I are going to NYC here in a few moments and I already decided yesterday I am not going to be wearing any watches and she will not be wearing here engagement ring.

Not my intention at all and again I'm in Philly.

Heard what felt like back to back stories on the radio and felt compelled to share. Maybe it will add some situational awareness to someone who reads which leads to increased safety to persons and property.

I agree , nothing wrong with raising awareness. I live close to Philly and crime has been out of control there. I don’t think saying “this could be any city” is entirely accurate since I think Philly is in an especially bad place right now with respect to law and order. With that said, it is fall approaching winter, so long sleeves will surely cover any watch worn.

I’m from PA. We lived in the suburbs (Chadds Ford / Glenn Mills area). Brandywine Valley is absolutely gorgeous. Very nice, affluent area. Great place to live. Great schools, great people.

I never liked Philly. I always thought it was a cesspool. Sorry, I guess I’m just not a city person.

Still can be a topic of discussion with others that may have experience to raise more awareness. Sorry you don't agree with it, but unfortunately it's getting worse out there by the day. And crime goes beyond major cities as well

I DO agree with it, but it’s non specific to Philly. I can barely go to my birth city anymore, NoLa. I come here to escape reality

Seems like there are lots of cities that aren’t safe enough to wear a watch anymore: Paris, London, Rome, NewYork, now Philly too.

Lot of these threads

No problem with them being flagged as always a reminder to be on guard etc

However, Probably 100s of thousands go about their daily business wearing every watch brand under the sun without issue 52 weeks of the year.

So it's okay for some dork to come on here and ask a group of total strangers how he should be spending his 25K+? But a guy who puts out a thread essentially just letting folks know to 'be safe out there' is frowned upon by some? This place is getting more and more twisted with each passing day.

Philadelphia is definitely different from many other major cities in that theft and larceny have been effectively decriminalization under the current District Attorney.

If the gun-wieding Rolex thieves were caught ("were" because there will be no actual investigation) they'd be released on their own recognizance and then eventually get probation at worst. If they committed the same crime a mile away outside of the city property boundaries, they'd face jail time.

This country has become way too soft on crime. Some states are tough on crime, but many states are definitely not.

Thanks for the head’s up. That first video is terrifying. Robberies of all sorts seem to be at an all-time high. Be safe out there, everyone.

There was an occurrence here in Philly a few years back (I want to say 2016ish) where someone bought a 5-Digit Sub or sea-dweller in person from a well known, long-standing Grey that turned out to be stolen.

It happens, probably rare, but it keeps me away from Greys.

Fifteen years ago the politicians and law enforcement were taking credit for the decrease in crime; now they are distancing themselves or denying it is on the rise.

With activist district attorneys, bail 'reform' and selective pursuit and prosecution, don't expect things to get better.
