Are you suggesting that a million dollar watch is not worthy of stealing? Not that I condone any form of theft... but it seems to me that it would be an easy target.

Or are you suggesting that it was crazy to wear a million watch as a tourist? Which I can agree with.

Scary. I mentioned it in another thread, but it makes me wonder what the limits are. Surely a million dollar watch is a target for planned attacks like this, but what about a $20k watch, or even a $4k 1601??? I’m not sure a planned attack on a million dollar watch would make me any more worried to wear an Explorer around, for example. Interesting times.

I imagine you’re putting more thought into this than most people who are about to go and forcefully steal from another person. A 5k or $1 mil take is all fair game for most people with this mindset. Their level of risk taking behavior is at an unhealthy extreme and is unlikely to include a methodology like you’re considering. Bad financial situations, drug habits, limited job prospects, respect from their crew, increasing their rep in the streets - robbing someone may not even be about the money, so they dont care if they’re taking a 35 year old Datejust or a $1 mil Hublot.

While there are a few “high flying” crews who only target high value scores and have an analytical approach picking their target, it’s not the norm. For every glamorized heist or targeted robbery like in OP’s post, there’s a ton of other “run of the mill” robberies too bland to make the news.

If you walk the street with a million bucks on your wrist you are a fool.

Would this watch be difficult to "fence"?

Insurance?

Dollars to doughnuts, if he was wearing a 40K Day-Date they would have grabbed that as well.

My wife and I are heading to Europe in the fall. Hopefully we won’t get mugged over digital watches. We do a little prep work to hide all valuables as we saw a mugging in Brussels at the train station platform in 2019…

Absolutely. I was carjacked in a girlfriend’s 1999 VW Beetle, but that’s kinda my point. I still drive a nicer car than that now without much worry. I say insure them and wear them.

Yes, things can have high monetary value without being popular on TRF.

I didn’t know a Hublot could be that expensive. I’m sure the gent has insurance. At least I hope.

The Big Bang Caviar is ceramic and costs less than $10K. This gentleman claims to have been wearing the unique (1 of 1?) special edition that used black diamonds in place of textured ceramic. They also seem to have made one piece with white diamonds. Both have tourbillons.

I actually like how they used contrasting diamonds for the power reserve.

I was in Barcelona a few years ago and muggings were common then, an American tourist from my hotel was robbed for a 90’s two tone submariner, he was chased and beaten up.

Muggings happen in all large cities anywhere in the world, wearing a $1 million watch is madness unless you have personal security or are in a secure environment.

I feel for the guy it as it won't have been pleasant (being tackled by scum) but you'd have thought someone that wealthy would also be worldly wise.

I like how it takes two thousand hours to make that Hublot, but yet it takes a year to make a Rolex…

A friend of mine left a similar Hublot model is his car and it got broken into. He got into his car and opened his glovebox to get the watch, and there were two Hublot’s. The horror, he still hasn’t gotten over it.

And 10,000 hours to plan a GTG. But what do I know, I’m wearing a Sellita powered IWC right now — Following in footsteps of Putin and his Mark XVII.

only worth what someone is willing to pay for it... what are the chances that two persons on earth would find that watch desirable?

seriously, theft is no joke. that is a more brazen crime than the usual opportunistic stories I hear about in Barcelona.
Unattended bags or cellphone on the table.
