Jack Road in Japan

For the lucky ones who have been to the Jack Road store in Tokyo, how much cheaper are their secondhand prices? Is it a significant discount compared to the US prices or is it just the variety and sheer number of watches they have that make them so famous?

Thanks in advance.

Their prices are significantly higher than the US grey market in modern and vintage.

2 or more years ago, price from Jackroad, Kame-Kichi and other popular grey dealer is much more cheaper than price in the US given high discount and weak yen vs USD. However, it’s totally different now. IMHO, I’d not buy any hot SS professional models given current situation. If you can find one at MSRP from AD, go for it. Otherwise, I’d recommend wait.

Yeah, you won’t find any Rolex “bargains” here in Japan unless you pay MSRP. All very pricey now.

They are not cheap. However if you have a good yen to dollar fluctuation they sometimes can pencil out.

Going to be in Tokyo next week, will have a look but I can't imagine there's any deals to be had on desirable sports models just like everywhere else at the moment.

There was a Youtuber posted video recently on how he visit almost every rolex shop (both AD and greys) in one part of Japan. For SS, most of the AD has YM2 for sale.

No great deals in Tokyo, but it is an extraordinary place to browse, with many, many vintage/pre-owned dealers with top quality stuff and ADs too.

I was at jack road two weeks ago and yes, the pricing is quite steep in comparison with Europe (I cannot say for the US), especially for the modern BNIB pieces. I cannot imagine, who would purchase that even with 8per Cent tax reduction.

However, you can find a bargain in the vintage section, because they have an incredible selection in those shops, only nakano broadway hosts like 15 watch shops including Jack road.

But the bargain is not the price; it’s the quality and the status of the timepiece, as usually the Japanese take very good care of their belongings.

I happen to purchase a Nearly NOS 16014 with a silver tapestry dial for a very reasonable price.

So if you have the chance to be there, go and take a shopping tour, it’s a hell of a fun.

Torsten

I was in Japan in Aug.
No SS in ADs.

Greys had all models, but crazy expensive.
I’ll be in Japan again in March, will post if anything good.

You won't find any deals there and in my experience the Japanese aren't one to haggle. I couldn't get them to budge at all on a King Seiko at Jack Road, though I bought it anyway.

Nakano Broadway is an amazing place to window shop though.

Thought I'd update this thread as I visited many different shops in Tokyo this week. None of the ADs had any SS stock different to whats been the norm around the world lately. Jack Road and that whole Nakano broadway area is an incredible place for a watch enthusiast although prices on Rolex especially aren't great at any of the shops for GMTs or Daytonas. It was fun to talk shop and look at some vintage pieces but the modern SS pricing was quite steep. There were deals to be had on used pieces but the "used" inventory was rather slim unless you were looking for a submariner. Quark in Ginza had some better pricing although not much inventory.

I’ve found otherwise, but I speak Japanese. Japanese rarely mean what they say and almost never say what they mean.....it’s a dance. Stay humble. Never, ever, ever, ask directly. You’ve got to haggle without haggling, and allow them to come up with the terms you’ve inferred, as though it was their idea all along. Sometimes it’s so exhausting, you’re just willing to pay retail

Even if you don't end up getting good deal, I think the instore experience, browsing through the shelves are worth the trip.

Also be sure to check out the vintage shop called Sweet Road in Kawasaki. They have a huge selection of great vintage watches - Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Seiko and others. It's off the beaten tourist path so all the good ones don't get snapped up immediately.

http://www.sweetroad.com/

A real hidden gem.

Japan. Yes means no. No means yes. Maybe means NEVER.

"It's difficult" means "Absolutely no f$%#ing way."
