In fact, I'd go as far as to say that a 33 piece limited edition watch in 2022 is by nature designed to sell out fast, as it forces people to act fast and it creates buzz/hype. If you're going to blame anyone, I say blame Monochrome for not securing more pieces!

Monochrono: faster sell out times, which is good for future collabs (not to mention less risk of carrying EXPENSIVE inventory)

Czapek: looks good for the brand and as a result they sell more watches and get more orders.

Collectors who got one: good for collectors who aren't losing 50% out the door. Even for collectors who don't intend to sell (short term or long term).

Collectors who did not get one: sucks, but there are plenty of other great watches including other awesome variations of the Antarctique.
I disagree with most of your points. Czapek already had to close their wait list on Antarctique orders so they won’t be benefitting from increased hype. For their long term success, I think they would hope their watches find the hands of long term collectors, not flippers. Excessively high secondary market prices attract speculators. If this market turns sideways and people buying Antarctique have done it speculating on price, they may very well flood the secondary market and severely damage the brand.

Collectors who got one should already feel relatively safe in their purchase. There’s a two year closed wait list on Antarctique orders so it’s clear there is a market there, a high priced flip shouldn’t do much to change that.

For monochrome, I agree more hype for future releases probably benefits them.

My opinion:

Anyone who lists a watch for 2x MSRP when it is still in the wrapping, nine minutes after receiving said watch, did not have a change of heart. You could get everyone on TRF to leave the anonymous seller a PM and it would not change anything.

I don't really know Czapek, except for seeing one locally and finding this nice thread. But all these mini runs in different colors with slight tweaks in collaboration with watch blogs to me says that Czapek is trying hard to play the "limited edition" game that Omega confuses me with. There's always another one coming around the corner. When you play that game as a boutique seller, you want to see high resale values as it "validates" your brand and makes it easier to sell the next limited edition.

So IMO the only aggrieved party is the person who wanted to buy one when they were first announced and missed his shot.

Disclaimer: I don't recall the MSRP of above watch, or when exactly it was released, but do enjoy playing fast and loose with the "facts"

sgrossma, agreed with a 33-piece limited edition watch in 2022 is by nature designed to sell out fast... provided of course the timepiece is of merit to the horological community. Since Czapek is a true independent manufacturer, i personally find it impossible to fault Monochrome as it's not like Czapek produces a mind-boggling 60,000(!) pieces a year. And in a sense, that's part of the attraction... and part of 'the rub' too. Also agree there are other great watches including other awesome variations of the Antarctique.

----------
----------

(Deeeeeeeep sigh) But yeah, in hindsight i kinda 'jumped the shark'.

100% agree with you gentlemen, yet someone so blatantly flipping it seems sooo very wrong to me to my core beliefs. Some of us are the type where we not only wear and enjoy, we also get extra straps and truly have fun with timepieces. We see many possibilities....

As always, jmho.

Thanks everyone for helping me, because yeah i tend to be... you know. So 'pulling me back' is helpful. VERY helpful, and yeah it's me. It's also why i need my Muse for certain situations and why as part of our Artist & Muse togetherness she joins me during all luxury shows (in fact this is a non-negotiable agreement we have). Like i said within the Beatles thread, "I get by with a little help from my friends."

Once again, thank you everyone for 'putting up' with me

If he can sell that for his ask in this market in an “arms length” sale I’ll jump off the Brooklyn bridge naked in January.

Unfortunately impossible to prove any sale is legitimate. Hence why I feel secure in my claims

Anybody have one of the leather straps for their Antarctique? I have the white dial Passage with a grey rubber strap right now.

Look forward to seeing it when it arrives! They sell the strap with end-links, pin and buckle as a set. I'm always a bit leery on straps as my optimal hole position is always right between the stock holes But if it looks great, it may be worth the risk.

LOL as the strap I'm wearing right now, I punched a 'tween hole on the leather strap. Fits great now

The delay is due to an over week-long $#!@& by the shipper. Monochrome has been great btw, they deserve high praise!

Of course you know I'm going to open the box in front of the delivery person to ensure the box isn't 'a bit light'.

I'm excited for you, I can tell you're super-pumped! I've punched an extra hole in my Speedy strap to get the perfect fit. It was not clean, but it's hidden with the design of their clasp. I don't know if I could bring myself to do it on a nearly $900 strap based on how the first foray ended up. I'm going to finally order the adjustable clasp, so that will go a long way towards comfort on those beach days where you go from AC room to the sun and back. By the end of the day on our last trip I could see the imprint of the bracelet pattern on my wrist all the way around.

I punched an extra hole in my Patek 5396 strap. I don't care, it fits better now.

I had emailed them prior to the announcement when info started to leak out and they put me on a list that they said would assure me an allocation. I didn’t end up following up though. Super cool piece I just have my eyes on some other stuff and didn’t want to take it just for kicks as I knew the demand was strong.

Wow, I don't see anything objectionable. I wonder if his account got hacked, so they shut it down?

That's a good point. I forgot about that. But still, would be surprised if that was ban-worthy. We'll see.
