Full gold wearing experiences

Hi all,

As a Two Tone Rolex owner, I am fascinated with the dream of upgrading to full gold. I am wondering if you could share your (good and bad) experiences with carrying a full gold Rolex?

A popular statement is that a full gold Rolex ‘screams’ or at least is very eye-catching.

Did any of you find it too much and maybe downgraded to two-tone? Or supplement your full gold bracelet model with a leather/rubber strap to tone it down?

Thanks

People will notice full yellow gold on a sports model, no matter what the brand. No doubt about that. Most people will not really care or think it is gold colored like all the watches available in the department stores.

Gold wears just like steel. It is all about what you are comfortable with.

I feel when I wear a YG PM piece I feel my inner Trinidad James come out and I want to wear even more PM.

I used to wear my 116718 a lot and would wear it with short sleeves in public in my area. I’d never do that now. Multiple stories of people getting followed home and in one case killed for a PM Rolex.

Now I’ll wear them long sleeves only and generally to places with controlled clientele and lots of security around.

Can wear low key gold like a dress watch without issues because nobody knows what it is. A Patek grand complication can probably be worn anywhere with no issues.

Still… there’s something about the gold bracelet. I find myself wanting more pieces despite the difficulty in wearing them.

One other thing is if you’re say interviewing for a job, I wouldn’t even wear a Rolex let alone PM.

I only wear my PM watches with sleeves of some sort.
Mostly because I feel that’s how dress watches should be worn.
Not in your face but will subtly spark curiosity…

This is exactly how I feel. Despite the downsides it just has such a draw and appeal to me..

I like them very much, the heft and PCL’s really do it for me.

No reason to tone it down. Any Rolex gold or steel is easily recognizable and the bracelets adds to the total package

YG +WG Daytona on leather and Oysterflex are good balance for me.

Used to wear a RG Daytona , loved the color and the weight, some people noticed it but not that many, then I traded it for a full YG and that was an eye magnet, to the point that I had burglars trying to break in my house with me screaming in front of them, I managed to scare them away, but a few days later I sold the Daytona cause I was too traumatised and couldn’t stand looking at the watch anymore.
Full YG especially, will attract more attention than you’d ever think, so just be mindful, I think I’m gonna stick with oysterflex from now on, love the contrast, love the rubber bracelet and love the heft of the pieces

I totally get your fascination with upgrading to a full gold Rolex. it really makes a good statement and catch peoples attention, it really depends on your personal style and preference.

Nothing but positive feelings for myself. I have, and have had several WG pieces and it's a personal experience. I have not done yellow or rose.

For me I have RG on oyster flex and WG on bracelet and I’m comfortable with that.

WG is my preference and lucky to have a few in rotation along with my SS pieces. YG and RG just don’t suit my tastes or style. TT watches are my least favorite by far and have never lasted in my collection.

For me it’s much more about the individual reference than it is the metal. But I do enjoy the added “heft” that WG offers and the fact that most other people have no idea they’re PM. They’re just more special to me, and that’s what matters.

I had a few YG TT watches over the years, DJ, Daytona, and I now have a YG DD 36mm. It is not even close to how different it is, at least when it comes to YG. 40/42mm YG for me is "too much" and looks like Michael Kors (personal opinion) so I prefer a classic look when going full PM. Another unpopular personal opinion, but I think PM on oyster flex is odd. If you want rubber and PM, stick with something like AP or Hublot.

Full PM for me always. I really like a heavier watch. However it's not for everyone, need to be comfortable and always aware. It's a watch that you really buy for yourself and should wear cautiously.

I think it depends on where you live as well.

In the UK gold watches are often seen as 'look at me' watches, I'm sure that this differs in other countries.

I have yet to own a PM watch. My grail is the WG Sub (maybe even the Platona), which would only be in reach for me if I liquidated part of my collection. I don't see myself wearing YG. WG for sure.

I have a YG DD White Romans 40 I wear often and never feel out of place or worried.
If you are worried about what others think and want PM buy WG or Plat.

Bought a SS Sub in 2019. Loved it.

Saw a TT Daytona in the AD's window once and genuinely couldn't understand how anyone liked it.

Two years later, I had fallen in love with that very TT Daytona; marched into that AD and slapped-down a deposit. Had to wait a tedious 12 months for it, but it finally arrived in January this year. After wearing it for a month, I realised that I simply wasn't going to wear my Sub again. But what to do with it? I wasn't desperate for the cash so didn't need to sell it, but also didn't want it just ... hanging around. Then I was browsing a second-hand watch dealer here in town, and saw they had a full gold Daytona on a black strap (the pre-ceramic 116518), for more-or-less the price of the Sub + TT Daytona. So I traded.

Owning a gold Daytona is ... highly recommended.

You’ll be very self-conscious of a full gold watch at first. Quickly you will get over it though and realize most people don’t notice, care, or think it’s real.

Agree.

I save my YG Daytona for fancier events or dinners out, so don't wear it so often. What surprises me is that the majority of comments I get is for my BLNR; it easily gets more attention than my Starbucks and YG Daytona combined.

I haven’t ever had an uncomfortable instance in my yellow gold sub. I thought it would be a magnet, nobody’s ever said anything. Totally worth it. No regrets. Favorite Rolex to wear.

Love my submariner. It’s so satisfying on so many levels. Proportion, color, weight, tank-like reliability, accuracy, comfort, gold crown and font, kick-ass-ness, etc and so on.
