You have not bought the watch yet - and you are talking about resale?? From the little you have written - you say nothing about why you want a watch / what you like about Rolex in general - only what others might think. I have to say, maybe spend some time thinking about what you want in a watch - or if you really want one at all... |

The Sub has a cleaner look which probably explains its slight popularity edge, and it does have slightly better resale, so go for it.

Go to an AD and look at ALL the Rolexes. You may find another model sings to you rather than those which are hyped up on forums the most.
Also, look at the other brands to make sure they don't have something. Seems you are smitten by the Rolex bug, if not the GMT or Sub bug. |

I have a GMTIIc LN. Be aware that they do not have a quick set date function which can be a PITA unless you wear it constantly or have it on a winder.

I have both the BLNR and SubC... By far the BLNR is on my wrist more of the two... However I do travel a lot for work and even when in the office it's meetings with other people on the teams in multiple time zones... So its functionality over the SubC's 300m water resistance is far more important to me, and I do like the way the BLNR looks.

And resale shouldn't be playing a part in the decision (at least shouldn't be a major one if it has to).

Sub all day but it sounds like you need to do some serious thinking before you pull the trigger, or you might regret spending that kind of cash.

Agree with the rest of the group.
Best way for you is to try both the sub and Blnr at the store. Compare one on your right and one on your left being a frequent traveler myself, the gmt would become handy so that make decisions easier. |

The GMT complication is Rolex's best. Sure, the sub is the most popular, but why follow the herd? I'd wait for a 116710BLNR. No need to worry about resale value on that watch.

I doubt you'd get a blnr in that timescale, but even so. It depends what you like.
Gmt - polished centre links, busier bezel, extra gmt complication. Sub - brushed finish, less busy bezel, no gmt complication but a more precise bezel mechanism and slightly better water resistance. Try them both, see which you prefer (I have a gmt). One you have decide that, then think about whether you want black or any other colour etc. |

If you're already thinking about resale value...I'd say, buy a Timex and keep your money in the bank.

Do you travel? If not do you like the additional complication of the GMT? And the Polished Center Links how do you feel about those? These questions will more or less get you in the right direction. I was a GMT head when I started this Rolex passion. In my current job I travel less than I use to so the GMT function was being used less. It became more work to set the watch in the morning so I'm not as a big a fan as I used to be. The Sub is all of a sudden becoming really attractive to me and because I have a YM I see where the bezel can be useful to count time. Good luck!! Many threads on this so read read read and try them both on. One of them will sing!

Don't buy a watch because you may be in a pinch later on in life, totally ridiculous reason. You're spending thousands now, you'll have thousands later on with either choice. Focus on getting what you want now, and what you want to look at every day for the foreseeable future. Both serve purposes, one is slightly more posh with the PCL's (GMT) and one is brushed (Sub). One has a lower profile (GMT), and one sits every so slightly higher (Sub) on the wrist (those are the big things I look at). Additionally, the Sub has more adjustment on the go with the Glidelock (20mm total in 2mm increments), whereas the GMT has a 5mm extension. The multi-timezone feature is a case of you really need it, or you kind of do. If the latter, go for the Sub.

Submariner.
As stated, you will be spending 6k on a watch. Better to be patient and get what you truly want. Compromising only incurs regret and will cost you more in the long-run. (Speaking from my own personal experience.) |

Which one do you like better?
I mean, really, you can talk about resale value, ask us our opinion (and by the way, the sub is always going to win on TRF), or...you can figure out which one you like. And, since you're going to be wearing it, doesn't that make the most sense? |

I recently bought my first Rolex and I went with the SubC no date but am planning on a GMT II for my next one. I do Dive occasionally but travel more and would get use from either. Keep in mind, the "Timer" function of the Sub can be used for more than just diving so I think that's helpful.
BTW, I chose the No Date because I knew my next one will have a date and I like the clean look of the SubC ND. You can't go wrong with either watch, I absolutely love mine. |

Buy a Seiko. Resale won't matter then.

I'd go to an AD and try both watches on and look at other Rolex watches that might interest you. I own a Submariner and an Explorer II which I use when I travel. If you travel to different time zones the GMT might be of value. If you scuba dive the Submariner is best. If you do neither, your decision should be what looks best to you -- forget about resale.
Buying expensive watches as an investment is a poor financial decision as there are other ways to invest for profit. Given the current rate of exchange Pounds to Dollars, your watch is over $8,200, no small investment. Good luck with your decision and let us know what you decided. |

Sub all the way. GMT function is great, but that glidelock bracelet is just fantastic.
