Daytona that has not been a safe queen

Was just thinking this morning with all the threads about people freaking out about a minor scratch, value retention, where prices are going, that I’d just like to share my 116500LN that’s being worn and enjoyed very much.

Close to 2 years of frequent wear, never abused, but I stopped stressing after the first few wears. She’s been with me on a few continents, on mountain bike rides, a half marathon, hot tubs, saunas, the gym and she still looks just as good as the first day I’ve had her. Damn accurate too, still keeping time pretty to within +1 second a week.

These are watches that are rock solid and meant to be worn! To me all of these marks are a small price to pay for all the hours of enjoyment I’ve gotten out of it! I’d much rather have these scratches than just have it sit in the safe unworn!

Wishing everyone a happy Saturday!

That cardiac doctor from Tampa who used to be a frequent poster here had a few that looked well-appreciated.

That watch looks great.

You clearly have great wrist awareness practices.

Yep, been wearing mine regularly for over two years. After the first scratch, which was liberating, I wear it without too much worry. Still looks great.

Wonderful! Quite right! All Rolexes are made to be worn, not to be stuffed in a drawer or languishing in a safe...for Heaven´s sake!!

Looking good Tom

Like you, I’m careful with my watches (not to the obsessive) and I enjoy wearing them pretty much everywhere

Love your watch and attitude!!

Did you wear the Daytona on your 1/2 out of necessity (didn’t want to leave it in hotel room, etc) or is it that comfortable of a watch?

I would characterize that wear as "honest and considerate wear". My 5 year old TT GMTc looks similar. To each their own, but I will remove my expensive watches when I'm rooting around in an engine bay or working underneath my car or doing other highly physical work that is likely to damage my watch. Wear is one thing but I'm not a fan of the dents, gouges and scratches from wild abandon. I do have an old Seiko beater.

+1 to this question. As a runner quite intrigued.

Well played making the most of your watch

I daily my Platona. It’s got plenty of desk dive marks on the band. Prior to it, I daily’d my TT black sub C for almost 8 years. We work hard and should enjoy wearing nice things, not taking a trip to the safe to admire them, just my two cents. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing your story. I feel the same although I don’t take my watches to exercise or for hard labor. I have other watches for that. I do believe that Rolexes are built to be worn and I believe in the romantic notion that watches do accompany us to mark the passage of time.

For all the activities... it is still showing surprisingly light wear. Genuinely impressed. I don't know how people do it. My Pepsi is going to be my daily, but if I ever get the Daytona call she will also not be moddy-coddled.

What else do you wear in rotation?

The watch is plenty comfortable IMO with the right fit, for which I had to get a 1/2 link and fit it to the 6 side. I wore it in a 1/2 basically "just because I could" to prove a point that these things are bombproof, with an Apple Watch on the other wrist.

There is a healthy balance to be had I guess. I too, wouldn't be wearing this when doing hard labour, but I am a white collar worker who mostly sits at a desk, so hard labour doesn't really come up often for me. I haven't dented or caused deep scratches to it yet (knock on wood), but the PCLs are looking close to being brushed naturally.

Point is, is that these swirls and hairlines are a miniscule cost to me to enjoy the watch. I'm not thinking about maximizing every $ if or when I want to resell it, and the memories created with it are worth so much more than that.

In the last 2 years I also had a PP 5712, 116519LN that I wore regularly in rotation before I sold them. Currently, I rotate most frequently with a black 116500LN, BLRO, 16570 and A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph.

Much better than the endless stream of watches with stickers.
