Approximately 10 seconds too fast?
What would cause a new watch to run approximately 10 seconds too fast (per minute)? The second hand is outpacing other second hands when held side by side with another watch. It is a 2021 model.

It’s magnetised most probably.

If magnetized, what is the fix?

You can buy a demagnetizer on Amazon but personally never used one. Search on TRF to see what people have done to diagnose it. |

Its way fast. Compared to another Rolex, phone, and clocks in the house. 10-11 seconds per minute......
I don't know if I bumped it, or it became magnetized. Would a bump increase the speed this fast? I have two other Rolexes that both have been bumped here and there with no performance issues.... Any idea of the turn around time to "sending it in"? Do ADs have the ability to fix in store? |

If a bump caused the increase in speed, is that something that can be handled at an AD?

I doubt a " bump" would cause any harm. Throw it against a hard concrete wall....... maybe. Uh, what watch is it? Brand? Model? I was assuming a Rolex or Omega. Suggestions can be vastly different depending on which watch you have.

Buy a de-mag and you should be fine. Keep it away from your cell phone and laptop to prevent this in the future.

If it's a 2021 Rolex and it's running that fast, it's not magnetized. There is a escapement issue. 3230/3235 will run slightly slow when magnetized as the escapement is nonmagnetic.

Yes 2021 Rolex 3235. What is an escapement issue? How resolved?

The "common" issue with the 32xx results in a watch running slow, not fast. Your movement should be pretty resistant to normal magnetism with its anti-magnetic hairspring. If this watch was bought at an AD I'd have them do a quick test on the timegrapher. Please report back...

Approximately 10 seconds too fast?
Can the gear train even turn the seconds hand that fast?!? Holy cow.
I’d pull the crown out and stop the watch if you haven’t already, and get it to the AD Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Take it into the shop you bought it.
Unless there is obvious impact damage I’d suggest it’s still under warranty. |

I plan to visit the AD Saturday. Until then, the watch is turned off.... Wondering if this will be a warranty issue or out of pocket?

If it is still under warranty then it should be covered unless the watch has obvious signs of abuse. Typically an impact damage will bend or break something, which would be expected to result in a slowing of the timekeeping. A magnetized hairspring is the most common reason for a watch moving "really" fast, such as yours, but you have a hairspring that is anti-magnetic. So definitely a bit of a mystery. I don't think you gave details on how you got to this point? Watch is X months old? Was running great until one day this happened?

Watch is a Feb 2021 dated DJ41. I don't recall any major bumping, beyond desk diving and I have never had any magnetized issues where I work with other watches. The DJ41 is in perfect condition except for a small ding on the case. The speed up in time just started yesterday. |

Although you may have an issue with the gear train, you can simply check for magnetism by using a compass or downloading an APP on your cellphone. Lepsi has a free APP that works well.

If your "bump" was sufficient to have done damage, it is not covered by the warranty. Rolex will make a determination of what happened, and if it is covered.

As has been said, these watches contain a non magnetic hairspring but that’s not to say a good magnetic field couldn’t induce some sticking together of other parts inside the watch. Demagnetiser…..a little blue box with a red button can be bought off eBay for next to nothing and takes seconds to demagnetise a watch. I’ve used one of those on my watches from time to time with no ill effects. However, as said above, these movements also have other issues, been plenty of threads about it, and with the gain you are seeing it’s likely something else, but demagnetising is very straight forward and simple and you can do it yourself. Maybe worth trying that first before you send it in. |

Any watch tech should be able to demagnetize a watch and usually at a nominal fee, if any at all. Buying your own demagnetizer is a good option, too.
