Struggle to return my 5140G

Here's the dilemma that I need your input for...I recently added a 5140G to my collection - purchased from a well-known local watch shop for $45k.

The watch is beautiful in pretty good condition (looks mint). It was originally purchased in mid 2014 (on papers) and serviced about 3 years ago (some mild polishing done at PP). However, a couple of things are missing: the booklet (which I can care less) and spare solid case back which could be worth $5k+ to resell value.

What I'm struggling is that the missing back case could meaningfully discount the resell value in the future (assuming minimal appreciation over time).

I do have the option to return in the next 10 days - would love you hear your thoughts.

Best,
Daniel

This +1 too much money too worry about your purchase - quick check online suggests that you didn’t get a crazy good deal either. I’d return and look for something that makes 100% happy

It all depends on how much you like the watch and whether its a potential long term keeper. The deeper I get into this hobby, the more I just care about the condition of the watch and less about resale potential. If it checks all the other boxes, I probably wouldn’t return it for something like this.

The most ridiculous part of this - (call me crazy) but somehow I was able to find the same watch on another website (with same papers and buyer info). Guess the previous owner originally posted it for selling himself - that freaking piece of back case was there together with the watch in a picture.

Were you thinking of reselling this at some point in the future? If so then return it.

If the deal was just fair and not good toward you I would return the watch and get a refund. If you want to be sure what the difference in trade/sell value is shop the watch with some of our Trusted Sellers and see what they offer you. Without being complete, even though it is a great watch, at this level I would return the watch for a refund and find one that is complete. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Perhaps seller was able to sell the caseback separately and thus offer the watch at a lower price?

Did ask around and got a few quotes - wild range from $28k to $38k (without the case back). So a minimum $7k loss if reselling the watch.

I have requested the return which was accepted by the seller. Like some others said - I just want to sleep well at night.
