I just got back from HK. As soon as shop assistants found out I was from London they told me not to bother as everything in HK is now priced towards rich Chinese.
And I found everything more expensive than London - you'll be able to get much better deals in Singapore, I was there over Christmas last year and could quite easily get 15% + off. The most I was able to get off in HK was 10% on a 16622. Even the second hand goods in Tsim Sha Tsui were really expensive..

Anyhow, what the assistants told you is perfectly true. Cash is king, and boy do some people here have a ton of that nowadays... it's almost like they don't know what to do with it all. Well this is not the right place nor the right time for me to go more in to this, so I'll keep my fingers away from the keyboard. But yeah, sure this have definitely affected prices in places like HK, no doubt about it! Cheers, Joe
