Air, Land, Sea - Trio Decision
currently on journey to acquiring a land piece to complete my als trio. however, i am still torn between a daytona and roc. they both have their pros and cons, but i am still torn between the two.
which land piece would you choose and why? |

The AP is a significantly more expensive piece than the SS Daytona (at retail), wears much larger and to me atleast feels much more premium. Given your 2 Rolex watches, I would be looking at the AP but likely with a lighter dial colour (silver/white or grey). Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my SS Daytona (black dial) but would much, much rather have the AP.

I’ve never really been a fan of the AP aesthetics for whatever reason, (beautiful watches as they are., I’d go with the Daytona in this case

AP for the sake of variety, but I’d rather the white Daytona over the BLRO or green/black Sub.

Both are great, but I'd choose the Daytona only because AP styles don't really appeal to me. I'd also get the Pepsi on Jubilee for a little more variety.

The AP has never spoken to me, so I'd opt for the all Rolex option

I would go with the Daytona.
I have a 38mm AP chrono that I can't find myself wearing. I love it and it's a beautiful watch, but the thought of getting any scratches on the bracelet or bezel just makes me put it back. The pushers and winding crown also seem more fragile than the Daytona and all of my other Rolexes. I know...I know...it's a watch and should be worn. I don't wear it as much as before, now it's mostly on special occasions (ie. weddings, date nights, those sorta things). Scratches just show up more on the AP than on any of my SS Rolexes.

For me personally, it would be Daytona over a RO chrono. RO is a stunning watch, but from a wearability standpoint the Daytona would come out well ahead (for my wrist).

I would always pick a nice Speedmaster instead. Sea, Mountain, Space is my preferred adventure trilogy.

Air, Land, Sea - Trio Decision
In this case, it’s the sum of the parts for me. I’d go all Rolex.
But I really dig that AP RO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For me, Daytona. It has motorsports heritage that goes beyond what AP ROC has, which as a car guy, personally matters.
Also, I am not a fan of the RO aesthetic either - often times, I find myself wanting to like a watch due to its hype and respect in the watch world, but my subconscious keeps telling me otherwise. AP ROC is one of those watches (gasp, along w/ the Nautilus). |

Of those two I’d go Daytona. Many other better chronos in that price point or less though.

I'm not a fan of modern AP. I think they've become entirely too reliant on the RO and felt the collaboration with Marvel was unbefitting.
I would choose the Daytona |

I’d have to say the Rolex line up but for me that is aesthetics. I know it may not be a popular opinion but I think the Daytona should have always had a date. Not necessarily a date window like the Tudor, it could have been more like the older Sea Dwellers with no date window. This would make it essential for me as a daily. Since it doesn’t have a date it would only be a weekend watch. I do love the Rolex heritage that made this model so popular. I just need more cowbell, I mean a date.

Having the 3 Rolexes would be more pleasing to the eye so I go for that.

I would never choose a lineup with a Royal Oak.
