Why wouldn’t you buy gray if you wanted to expedite?

Shouldn't be illegal but in this day and age who knows. I do not think it is an ethical practice for people at ADs to seek or accept money to them personally from customers for preference of allocations.

Why would an AD accept a 5k only bribe for a Daytona when they can sell it at a much higher price to a grey dealer, or sell it to a client already spending a fortune on other items like jewelry and less desirable watches? It doesn't hurt to try, but unlikely to succeed.

Just Pay the $5,000.00 to a Gray so they can use it to pay an AD and keep the cycle going! Genius idea! You realize that the market is the way it in part to the AD's "reserving" the best for repeat customers and partly because they are funneling the desired watches out the back to the Gray Dealers for Ca$h. Again though, no one is coming to your home and forcing you to buy a Rolex... if you don't like the process, don't buy. I won't buy anything "NEW" from a Gray, only used models that I want to add to my collection.

Lots of people do it, some salespeople share that bribe with their managers. It’s not like that they don’t need the money …

It seems that many members of this forum seem perfectly fine with greys procuring watches from ADs using all sorts of subterfuges, some actually encouraging others to go the grey route |

So if offering a cash incentive of thousands of dollars to free up an allocated SS piece is considered a bribe, then could the request from the manager at my local AD for $20K in cash plus my 126610 in trade for a bnib SS Daytona be considered extortion?

If you are dealing with a salesperson, they don’t have the authority to allocate any watch to you, let alone one of the rarest models. So the $5k would not do anything, except possibly cause the sales person to lose their job if found out,
If you are dealing with the owner, he or she would likely be offended, as they already have favored clients who get watches like that, and they don’t pay a tip or bribe. Offering $5k would not put you in their good graces. If you are willing to pay a premium, buy what you want on the grey market. |

How can a Daytona be rare there are many many thousands of them in this world today. What is rare is buying one at retail price, the Daytona got to be the most over hyped Rolex watch ever. But today hype sells watches and why the Daytona is now crazy money for a mass produced watch. The Daytona today has become little more than a $$££€€ object thing to many and little more which is a shame.

As many people have noted NOPE. You shouldnt even talk about it as they are not allowed to take any gifts. For example I made some fun Rolex stickers for myself and watch friends. I wanted to give my AD one and he said he couldn't take it. Granted after 20 minutes of me explaining I can't resell these and they have no monetary value to please take the silly sticker I made. Which they eventually agreed. Another AD I have in a different state is getting into collecting bourbon which I collect. I wanted to get him a few bottles to help him out with his collection and I noted on the phone I am not allowed to give you small gifts right. They said no thats always not a great idea but he noted your welcome to give it to me outside of work hours. We have become somewhat friends and I hope it doesnt change our professional relationship as I dont want to be that guy trying to cheat I just wanted to help a fellow bourbon lover out with something fun. Next time I visit him Ill bring a few bottles and call his personal cell to meet me before work. If he drinks it there is no evidence.

The OP reminds me of a guy my wife worked with. He "bribed" a better school for his young kids with the "gift" of several iPads for the class to get them in that school.

In Europe there are no bribes... or tips... LOL
Better if you want something do like the rest and wait... so you're going to burn 5000 usd if it's still going to make you wait... contact 10 AD and put yourself on the waiting list... someone is going to give you what you want... sooner or later |
