are current 2 tone models clasp's gold plated in the middle?
Stupid question im sure but regarding the gold stripe down the middle of a DJ41 or sub/gmt clasp I dont see how you could use solid gold and fuse/weld steel to each side.
Also whats the weight difference between a steel and a 2 tone for the dj41 and gmt or sub? |

Cannot you read it's a thin strip of solid 18kt gold it's not gold plated,on early models the winding crown was gold plated, but later models had what they call monoblock crowns solid gold but a internal steel sleeve for winding threads.

The gold strip on the clasp is a piece of gold adhered to the steel clasp. They can and do fall off. Glad most do not fall off even after years of wearing and polishings. I wonder how hard it would be to fuse three lengthwise portions of metals as one for the clasp. The middle one would be gold.

Do you know if the gold-colored center links are constructed the same/similar way?

0.05mm is 50 microns so at 60 microns this ‘plating’ is about the same thickness? I remember seeing the detached plate in that thread and it looked much thicker than 60 microns.

Yes, some current two tone models have a clasp that is gold plated in the middle, it gives a nice contrast and adds a touch of elegance to the watch.

you said "60 microns".... google says a human hair is that thick or thicker. its a shame the clasp is made this way which is a disappointment. Thats like having a fiberglass car spoiler with a wafer thin piece of carbon fiber on top or a bunch of other analogies of "doing it half assed". Even if its 10x the 50 or 60 microns its still less than 1mm. Last edited by OmeletteDuFromage; 28 April 2024 at 10:51 PM.. Reason: added stuff |

This one off incident shouldn't deter you from getting a TT watch. And there is no reason for Rolex to get rid of the current clasp as it simply isn't an issue and offers fine adjustments that the DD bracelet does not. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe Rolex does gold plating anymore on the center strip of the clasp. It's solid gold and then adhered to the SS part of the clasp. |

Since there are 1000 microns in a mm, the gold strip is more like 600 microns, not 60. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

60um would be way too thin to be fixed to a stainless steel clasp.
I read that it was approx 0.8mm but 0.6 mm would be workable.
