Thank goodness for ignore. I no longer have to read posts from the chick that feels compelled to post in every thread multiple times, brag about her collection... Except when y'all quote her.

It’s relevant if we didn’t have the picture of the guy. If we didn’t have that, by all means post a description of him, including race, height, weight age. Something that’s useful in identifying the guy. But we have a pic.

Multiple people posted about the envelope guy, and nobody felt the need to post his race in the headline and multiple times in the post. That’s what was weird.

I’m sure the OP was trying to be helpful and appreciate the post.
But a post that said “beware of this thief. Pic included” is much much more useful than beware of African American guy trying to buy watches. Surely you can see that?

Obviously not one of us who was victimized is prejudiced or else we wouldn't have met with the guy in the first place. Race had nothing to do with anything.

Let's face it though - if I had read someplace on RolexForums or elsewhere about an African American Rolex Robber before this guy contacted me, I wouldn't have been robbed. Not because I would have hung up the phone right then and there, but because it would have clicked first along with other details.

I don't think it is any different from putting out there a detailed description including race of a serial killer, to protect the community.
I hope this criminal gets caught and the stolen watches are returned back to its orginal owner.

Wow this is nuts. I talked to this guy late last year when I was selling a Daytona. He found me on TRF and then we texted and chatted on the phone couple different times over several days. He talked about his father's Daytona that he inherited and wanted to add another one to his collection and wanted to make sure mine wasn't polished. He was going to "fly in" from Vegas to do the deal. He also wanted to meet at a crappy jewelry store to get "authenticated" and then wanted me to follow him to his bank. I told him to just bring cash to the jewelry store and we would do the transaction there. He kept trying to convince me that we would need to go to a second location to finalize. Spidey senses were telling me something was off and I didn't move forward with the deal. Forgot all about it until reading this post. The safest way to sell a watch nowadays is to work only with a trusted dealer on here or locally. It's just too much risk to deal with a random stranger.

So both the buyer and seller get the watches authenticated and then what? How is he taking the watch without handing over the cash?

Once he gets the watch in hand, I'm assuming he just runs out the door with it.

some real 'i'm offended' snowflakes in these comments, the frustration the victim must have and been going through and replaying the whole thing in their mind must be torture...

I really hope that people take note that there is an 'African American' thief who is wanting to steal your watch and they are lurking on all forums so I am well aware, nothing derogatory in the description from what I can see regardless of how many times the scum bag is referred to like it!

Disclaimer: not all African Americans are looking to steal your watch!

OP, I’m sorry to hear you were swindled, and I hope you somehow recover your watch.

If you’ve reported it stolen to Rolex, there’s a chance it might end up at RSC for service one day, and it will be flagged. Having the paperwork and a police report will help you in getting it back should that ever happen.

OP, I do hope you recover your watch. If anyone is selling a watch they should be very cautious when selling.

He was lurking here before - that is how Jayden stole it in the first thread by OP about this crime.

And he surely is again!

Good additional info on the pattern this guy has established.

Did you ever post the serial number of your DD he took?

Doing that on TRF helped me recover my Platona a couple of years back.

Awful thing that happened to the OP and I hope the guy is caught and punished but the pictures show what he looks like
"American Rolex Robber who preys on California in person sellers"

To me the title of the thread is not descriptive of anything.

Excellent reporting OP. One on one crime is always scary and lifechanging. Face to face transactions with people who do not have mutually known references should best be avoided. Thanks.

I don’t understand why people try to sell or buy expensive watches to people they meet online. Just don’t get it. Yes the criminal is the problem, but come on everyone!

Yes the watch has been registered as stolen with Rolex (Lea Di Luca), and also I paid to have it registered with TheWatchRegister.com

The police also have it entered into a nationwide database, and I contacted dozens of pawn shops, hundreds of watch dealers and they logged it too.

So .. I got lost... do you say black? African-American? Central American?

I think the term African-American was born because black-skinned Africans (because there are also Africans of other colors like the Egyptians etc) don't like to be told that they are black... between a dilemma now...

Update how you have to mention people with black skin so they are pigeonholed into a specific race ... African-American you understand anything... there are also the Afrikaans or Boers who are Afrowhites

On a global forum there can be syntax patterns that are common in one region but are confusing in other regions.

Since this thief is a repeat offender, shouldn't this thread be a 'sticky'.
