I would find someone else to do the appraisal. My local guy charges $25 but and it takes 10min. I've gotten enough done by him that he usually only charges $10-$15 but one time he did it in trade for a turkey sandwich from the deli next door. My insurance company has never had issues accepting the certificates he provides.

Ask your insurance company who they'll accept an appraisal from. In my
case it was a jeweler or watch business. They typically don't require it to be an AD.
So you have lots more options than the AD. awci.com lists a single CW21 certified
watch repair person in Tucson; might check with him.

I had my sub appraised by an independant watch store, not an AD. I think it cost $75and my insurance company accepted it.

That Tucson AD is crazy. The process involves taking one photo of the watch and writing up an appraisal on their letterhead. I would make the drive to an AD in Phoenix and have one of them do it if you can not find another place in Tucson. Shouldn't be more than $50. My AD did it for free.

You're paying the premium based on the appraised replacement value, if the 14060M isn't available then yes I would ask the AD to put the value of the 114060M down on the appraisal. It's not funny business it's just a matter of having the AD or whoever does your appraisals on board.

It's better to have some kind of relationship built up with an AD or a jeweler, so much easier to get an appraisal that way!!

Toronto RSC Includes Value On Receipt/Invoice

When the Toronto RSC does any work on the watch warranty or otherwise they place the retail value right on the Invoice/Receipt that is given to you. This would cover insurance as it has serial number on it.

Run! Find another AD or competent watchmaker to do it.

On the insurance side of this, your policy governs whether they will buy a new model to replace a discontinued one...

IIRC, they also have the right to pay you the cash equivalent of the replacement value of the discontinued model - i.e., the average used price from 3 appraised valuations.

On the appraisal side, any jeweler can do a quick check and paste the current MSRP for your model on a piece of letterhead - 10 minutes, $25 and voilą you're done

I believe my local jeweler did just that. I just had my appraisal updated and I looked up the retail cost of the 114060M and the value matched.

Drive to Phoenix. I'm sure there are a few ADs out there.

In my experience you don't necessarily need an appraisal. You just need something that underwriting can examine to validate the replacement value of the watch.

I've sent in pictures of my watch along with printouts of websites that sell the watch, such as a Jomashop, etc. that shows the MSRP of the watch.

I insured my watch and wife's watch through a personal articles policy/rider to our homeowner's insurance.

That's nuts. I called my insurance company the other day to add a couple watches and they asked me what it would cost to replace them. I told them what i thought it would cost and they said OK. Done. Whole phone call lasted about 5-7 minutes. I don't give them the value of a new watch but rather the value of the same model as I see them on the secondary market. I'm just looking to get whole again in the event of loss. No more.

If you bought the watches there, they should be darn right free! I have gotten them for free from two different AD's.
