Heuer Kith Thoughts

I haven’t seen any threads on the Tag Heuer Kith collaboration. What do people who grew up in the 80s and 90s think? Considering the quality, I would have liked to see them at the $750 price point.

1500€ is outrageous for what it is. But I do really like them

I agree. Some have also criticized the size.

Liked the idea. At moonSwatch pricing I would have bought one. I didn’t know what Kith was until the talking watches episode a few weeks back so that collab has no appeal to me and in general I don’t like collabs.

Are they technically just like moonswatch but with a slightly better movement?

Thats what I thought too. But the Kith Heuers are actually steel cases and steel bracelets, from what I understand, not plastic, which is a huge difference to me. I still think they are overpriced.

Incorrect - 5 of them are steel cases. The rest plastic. All are the same price.

Cool idea, but why wouldn't I just find an original F1 on chrono24 and call it a day?

I lived in NYC and shipped at Kith before, but the collab does nothing for me.

It did give me nostalgia for seeing those watches as a kid back in the 90s, though :)

Would have been all over one…but then I saw the price. While I won’t argue that they won’t sell through, the price put me out.

When they had the kith founder on hodinkee I assumed there was something coming. Was shocked it wasn't through hodinkee and kith exclusively

I think some of the color combos are cool enough, but they are way too small and way too expensive.

Picked one up. Been a kith fan since their early ASICS collab days. Watch might not be for everyone and the price is steep for what it is, but it’s fun!

I think they look neat. I entered the drawing for the LA version but didnt win.
Over the past weekend I stopped by a Tag boutique and they had the blue and green versions in stock. They looked a lot better, especially in terms of quality, in person. I planned on buying one (or both) but I tried it on...and the 35mm just looked puny on my wrist. I don't mind smaller watches (my DJ is 36mm and it wears fine). But the tag lacks true lugs so wears much smaller. It looked and felt like I was wearing a 32-34mm watch. So I passed on them.
But they are good looking watches.

I have a lot of residual affection for the F1. Growing up in the 90s, it was the default first proper watch for teens.

That said, the way it’s been produced and marketed has really soured the rerelease for me. I know that Hodinkee is no longer the enthusiast blog it was under Forster, but even for them the set-up reeked of cynicism. Doing a whole Talking Watches episode to hype up a random clothing store no-one had ever heard of, and ‘innocently’ devoting a whole segment to mint, New In Box F1s, smelled off from the start. To then barely a week later launch the collab was like pissing on the grave of Hodinkee’s history and little remaining integrity. We know it’s now a bona-fide part of the LVMH machine, at least they can no longer even pretend.

Even if they’ve soured what affection I once had for the line the watches are alright, but massively overpriced. With the launch, though, Hodinkee are dead.
