He didn’t say, but I admired his candour. He advised me to not consider it with my dial as mine is well preserved (i wasn’t by the way). He also said it would be expensive. He also said he wouldn’t advise polishing a vintage piece like mine. Pretty unusual for RSC. I’ve heard others have had good experiences with vintage pieces at RSC Toronto.

Actually, I. Elie RBI’s words were “we can get them” so that suggests to me that they would have to get them from Genève HQ.

I really love the humongous date magnification on the 1680s!

They did a good job on this. Amazing they replaced it with a red service dial and not a white gold surrounding dial. I wish they would make this a option for older models. This is a great daily I must admit stunnin!

Great job for sticking it out, and getting what you asked for.

Looks really great. Nice to see that they still have those in stock in the homeland.

Congrats!

Owning a 1977 1680 with a RSC service dial (Luminova), I personally think they are without a doubt the best service dials around. There is something about the warm vintage charm exuded from the watch while having a new and refined sense of modern functionality stemming from a crisp dial.
Love it!

Brilliant....so pleased to be pointed towards this thread.
Your watch looks amazing! I guess I’m in the Red Lumi dial club too, but found one without experiencing your journey. I did make a few phone calls to Rolex over a year ago but felt I hit a brick wall. A great read, congrats!

This is the a truly fabulous posting. I had no idea that an RSC could do this. I know it goes against the grain to overhaul and return a vintage piece to “like new condition,” but this is epic.

If that was my watch and I opened that box and saw how great that thing looks, someone would need to be standing by with a defibrillator.

Truly amazing. I would be inclined to take it to LAWW for a full case recut. Bringing the case back to factory finish seems appropriate to match the amazingly crisp dial. It would also be tempting to source a fat font mk3 insert. You have something far more rare than a typical "run of the mill" redsub.

I have been reading this thread and I must say I am curious. What would be the value of such a piece in comparison to a 1680 with an original red dial? Are these luminova red dials rarer than the standard red dials?

Personally, I would prefer this over a standard red sub, because at the very least I could wear it.
