DD36 finally has the DD40 numerals

It was something I couldn’t get over, the Roman numerals on the DD36 didn’t look good, while the ones on the DD40 were the best looking execution of Romans on any watch.

But now finally this has been fixed!

And as an added bonus this beauty:

I might have to rethink my next purchase.

This looks phenomenal.
The ombre dial in DD40 but with the roman numerals.

Been wanting this for years. The cut numerals make the watch look much more upscale

Yeah exactly my sentiment too. In my opinion a major upgrade for the DD36.

Prefer batons over romans, but they do look better than before

This was an awesome upgrade and the new ombré dials are the star of the release this year. I wish it did have a minute track, although I get why they didn’t feature it.

Another great change: the new DD36 dials that have diamond markers use baguettes, instead of round diamonds. I wasn’t a fan of the round diamonds, partly because there wasn’t enough space on the dial to properly align the round diamonds at 11 and 1 with those hour markers.

The datejusts need these numerals too. The current rounded ones remind me of undercooked cookies while baking

Late to this thread, but I must say this update is IMO the single best thing Rolex has come up with at this year's W&W. Love those deconstructed Romans!
Cheers

I agree with you on principle, but hate to tell you that both the baguettes at 11 and 1 are not centered to their markers, either. 11 is slightly off to the left, 1 slightly off to the right.

Would that keep me from owning and enjoying one? Not sure until I see one IRL.

You’re right. After zooming in more I can see what you’re saying. Still, I find the offset so very small that it won’t keep me from getting one. Now I’m just trying to figure out if I should go for the rose gold with that gorgeous new blue-green dial (with baguette diamonds), which I probably won’t be able to wear that much out of the house, or the more boring and stealth white gold with the blue dial and baguette diamonds.

I'm sorry, but at the end of the day, IIII IS NOT A ROMAN NUMERAL! All hyperbole aside, I seriously can't ever buy a watch with romans as the made up 4 would send me over the edge every time I looked at it.

Same.

I’ve been scouring YouTube videos and there’s a dearth of good videos so far.

I think the new DD 36mm dial colors and the introduction of the deconstructed Roman’s is the star of the Rolex releases at W&W this year.

This seems to be the slowest W&W/Basel that I can remember. I seem to remember last year pretty quickly there were a number of "real" wrist shots and videos. This year it's seems quite limited, which makes little sense because I thought the first couple days is just for press.

And Hodinkee's content... man, it might be the hardest I've cringed at watch content ever. They look like their moms dressed them at the cheapest department store, even Ben Clymer looked shabby. All their gushing has been terrible, too. One video they were talking about the new BB58 GMT and said it's a "remarkably thin watch," while they were showing the thick slab of a case.

I made the comment yesterday and stand by it: when people are more excited and largely talking about what was/wasn't discontinued rather than the new releases, I think that's a sign of it being a bad year.

Agreed on these new DD36 dials being the star of the show this year, though! I don't know why they're not showing these off front and center. I am greatly considering getting on the list for one!

Always loved these deconstructed romans on the 40 mm DD, but wasn't a fan of the "soft" romans on the 36mm.

This fixes it and a great upgrade. Can't wait to see one, might have to seek one out at some point.

Put those Roman Numerals on a Datejust and watch how popular they get! May have to have waiting lists again for Datejust's.

The new style of numerals looks beautiful but would still go with the old style IMO.
