Hi guys,

Thought I'd share this with all of you.

A long time ago, on another forum, some member used a strong solvent thinking he would get his Rolex all squeaky clean. WRONG MOVE!!

I had to admire that fella's guts to admit to his silly mistake and post pictures of his Rolex with a totally screwed up bezel and case all stained.

Not sure what on earth he used, but I think it could have been something his wifey used to knock off nail polish, namely acetone....but I'm only guessing here.

Guys, guys, guys.....Rolex may be made of 904L steel and the crystal maybe made of sapphire crystal, but please just take some good advice and stick to good ole' soap, water and an old SOFT toothbrush to keep your Rolex clean at all times.

On gold surfaces, you can use soft gel toothpaste. I've been doing so for 25 years - never failed me. But, other than that, NEVER NEVER experiment with any chemical which may work wonders on some of your kitchen appliances and other items around the house.

With Rolex, plain old H2O works wonders.....every bloody time!!

The other problem is that there may be a residue of the chemicals left behind and this may cause skin irritations etc.

One other point is that some chemicals will destroy rubber gaskets and "O" rings.

JJ nailed it.Soap and water and a soft brush.

BTW. Tap pressure water.Not high pressure cleaner water,which I have heard of before.

Yes, of course, just cool, running water from a tap ("faucet" to our American friends!)

A quick rub with my sleeve or a tee shirt does the trick for me.

Daren, I've had good luck useing this method with the crystal but, found it leaves ugly dark marks on the t-shirt when I use it on the band..
