There has absolutely been a change. I much prefer the earlier dials, but it's subjective, of course. I've owned both versions and now own (again) an earlier version.

My favorite feature on the older dials are the electric blue-turquoise highlights in the minute track that don't exist on the newer dials.

The newer dials have much darker sunburst highlights, that look black in certain light, as seen in the first photo below. Compare to the other photo and the differences are obvious.
