Peloton Riders Fall Off ???

I've had an exercise bike at home for many years and it's so great for hanging a shirt on after I iron it. I rarely ride it. I'd sooner ride outside.

Some info on Peloton's issues...

Absolutely love my peloton. I’ve had it about 5 years now.

If you ride [or even sit on] a bike you'll fall off a bike. Don't own a Peloton & never fell off my indoor trainer but have fallen off while just sitting on my bike at a 4 way stop. The guy in the pickup got a laugh out of it.

Most people are completely in the dark about musical licensing. They think if they buy or don't, (download it for free), buy a song, it's theirs to use however they feel like.

Politicians steal songs for rallies, people use them on their websites etc etc.

I didn't know, back when I had a business that it was illegal to play my playlist in the background of my business. I was essentially making money indirectly from the songs that were playing.

If you have a party where you charge money, you legally can't play someone's songs without permissions, or royalties paid.

Even MUSAK or elevator music existed because rigid copyright laws prevented them from licensing and rebroadcasting original recordings, so they hired their own orchestras to record non-vocal versions of current hits. They could have never afforded to exist if they paid for the original recordings.

As a musician & songwriter music licensing is worse than falling off a bike.

I've often wondered what the responsibility is for someone playing in a nightclub or any venue that charges money as to the use of popular songs.

Is there any royalties for the music? I'm guessing not but I wonder why not. Both you and the venue are making money off someone else's songs.

I've always been curious where the financial line is drawn.

Typically BMI or ASCAP, the 2 music licensing companies, requires a yearly fee from the venue owner that allows any published music to be played via TV, jukebox, or live performance.

The fees are based on the number of ears listening to it. That's why Paul Anka made about $300,000.00 a year just from The Tonight Show theme song. It was played in front of millions, Monday thru Friday, for decades.

Old news on the Peloton Bike. But man oh man, I've been riding the Peloton 191 weeks straight and am in about the best shape of my life. Between Tabata, HIIT, and Hills I am unstoppable when I get on the mountain bike.

I am almost 62 and frequently ride in the top 10% of my group.

Would highly recommend the program.
