How about a real 1016.....
Otherwise I'd go 214270, but I wouldn't say no to the new 2214270.... In fact I'd take any of them if they were on offer...

I l I own both the 124270 and the 214270. With a 7 inch wrist one is sporty/ modern and one is vintage sized and dressier. I love the 124270 on wrist and the gloss dial, dial layout and AR are exactly what I was looking for in a daily wear explorer. The MKII did a lot right but in the end the smaller size just works better on my wrist. The new explorer has a lot of the changes that I loved in the 124 but I imagine it will wear too large for my preferences and my wrist. ..Explorer & Spring Diver - I’m just here for the photos.. |

Pretty even split in the poll between the 124270 and 214270, and not much love for the 5 digit. Interesting. For the 212470 crowd, what do you like more about it vs the 40mm 224270? It’s more unique in that it has the matt dial. While I prefer the 36mm 124270, if I wanted bigger I also think I’d prefer the 20mm bracelet on the 214270 vs the 21mm on the 40mm.

I voted 214270 because I would need to see the 224270 to decide if I like it better…the gloss black dial with an anti-reflective treatment on the crystal would be pretty nice to have imo.
I still like all of these 36mm versions too.. |

I voted for the 214270 (Mark II), but to be honest I've never seen an Explorer that I didn't like. The 39mm size is simply better for my arm -- especially according to my girlfriend.
My opinion may change, however, after I've seen the new 40mm model in real life. I think a wider bracelet could be a great change -- it certainly works on the Submariner -- although on the other hand I think Rolex made a big mistake by moving the word "Explorer" to the top of the watch face. I'm sure they did that for the sake of tradition, but in my opinion it ruins the balance. |

I think it looks amazing with the negative space with the name on the lower text rows. I also love the matt black face which is just a stunning imho.

214270 mkii for me. Absolutely perfect. On the small side as an explorer should be but without being feminine. Explorer text low on the dial is a better balance as well imho
Matte dial as well

The 2nd gen 39mm (AKA long hands) was the best for me... until this year's 40mm came out.

I must say I’m very confused by these poll results so far. If you ever read anything about the Explorer on this forum you’d think that anyone who liked the 39mm version had two heads! It was constantly bemoaned by many folks as being “out of proportion, too big, not historic enough”, etc, etc. And yet here it is winning the poll.
Good to see it getting some love as the 39mm Explorer is my favourite Rolex that I’ve never owned.

I suspect that much of the criticism that the 214270 is supposedly “out of proportion” comes primarily from those that haven’t owned it, or possibly even tried it on. It’s easy to form an opinion from pictures that doesn’t hold up upon seeing the watch in the metal. I’m personally biased to the 39mm mk2, but looking forward to seeing the new 40mm at some point. |

I’d get a vintage, but a new 36mm at MSRP would be hard to pass up.

What is your favorite Explorer?
And just in case any members of the general public stumble across this thread, see the photo below. Clearly we are not crazy - they’re all different! lol
Seriously though, a masterclass in timeless design. Credit to Rolex where credit is due, this post-1016 Explorer design language has been consistent since 1989. |

I am going to give the 40 mm a try. I like the others but the sizing has never been good for me.

Its hard to vote correctly because most of us havent seen the new Explorer in the wild or even as a comparison to the pre-existing models.

Kind of how my 41mm OP is really 39.5mm. In fact, it wouldn’t shock me if they use for the Explorer 40 the same case as for the OP 41. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
