Last time I can remember, a friend who's not into watches asked me how much did my TT Sub cost me. Since it was the only thing he wanted to know, I said "a few grand, can't remember exactly how much", I was lying of course. In general, the people who asked me that question did it to judge and make fun, so I tend to not answer it.

Lots of people look, they know, you know, I always look to see what someone is wearing I’m interested in someone else’s taste in watches, I don’t care what brand if they have an interest and want to chat I’ll chat ..
Someone asked me if I had the new Omega Speedmaster on - disgusted I said no it’s a Daytona Panda .. and sounded like a right nit-wit … Jeweller I get my wife’s diamond bits from asked to try my Sprite on saying never seen one, I can’t make it up I had it on upside down having worn my Daytona for a bit ..

I think some folks look and notice, but don't really say anything. Actually I'd be more nervous if someone took a keen interest in a Rolex I might be wearing (especially if they talk to you directly) and would be watching my back...ha! Honestly I see more (visual only) reactions to my various G-Shocks. Personally I prefer to fly under the radar and derive more personal private enjoyment. The SAs seem to react enthusiastically when I mention having a Hulk as part of my collection. I think it’s something of a myth that everyone is going to notice your watch probably from years of Rolex advertising. Cheers.

I notice a few glances at my watch (in a WIS admiration way) and occasionally someone will say “nice watch” or “nice ___” (insert model name here.)
Fairly uncommon though. I personally love talking watches with strangers. I’ll only say something to someone else wearing a nice watch if I can do so discreetly without anyone else around hearing. Once I was wearing my Pepsi meteorite and a guy spotted it and dropped his jaw and said “whoa, niiiice.” I kind of liked that. lol! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Quite literally one of the most uncomfortable things ever. Like many others, I don’t “show” my watch to anyone. It’s always a bit cringy when some random person engages you about your watch.

I want to talk about my watches with my friends because I love watches and I get very excited about the topic. I’ve been that way since I was probably around 10.
Unfortunately I have 0 friends that I would bring it up to because I never want it to come off as bragging. The cost involved makes that very difficult and I could easily argue it’s no different than the amount they spend on their hobbies but then it feels confrontational… I had an opportunity recently while watching the masters with my buddy. He brought up Rolex specifically but kept saying he equated them to “success” and I wanted to disagree that it isn’t always the case. The timing just felt wrong for a friendly debate as they have just experienced a terrible family tragedy. He may have noticed mine at some point but assumed they were fake because I’m not what others would consider financially successful. It’s just how I choose to spend my hobby budget. I have also bought a watch to mark occasions of sorts. Like my Sub was to celebrate surviving a terrible auto accident. Short answer, no one really comments and while I want to talk about watches I also don’t really want the attention… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A host of comments. Is that a sub… nice watch oh it’s a Rolex, oh nice watch aren’t you afraid to get robbed.
I’m not going to play the no one notices line because they do (watch lovers). Only a select few will be cool enough to talk watches with you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don’t “show them”. The most comments I’ve had from people are on a GM-2100 g-shock saying nice watch. Not once has anyone ever commented on my Exp II and I prefer it that way.

I have an LV as well. I've gotten some hard stares, but otherwise only once a "nice watch."

I had two people come up to me in the last couple months asking about the aquanaut and one guy who was with his wife/girlfriend said he'd been looking/wanting one for awhile and asked if I got mine from the local AD. We nerded out awhile about watches and I took it off so that he could try it on. It's always fun to talk shop with fellow watch enthusiasts. As we parted ways my wife laughed and remarked that I was an idiot for letting the guy wear it. I told her naw I sized him up beforehand and could easily take him down in a foot race. haha

I'm in the "I don't show it off to anyone" camp. I'd be surprised if someone had the gall to ask "iS tHaT a ReAl RoLeX?!?!" At the risk of sounding elitist: I don't associate with people who'd think twice.
The only reactions I get are 1: when I walked into an AD and the SA said something like "wow, a Smurf! Haven't seen one of those in a while!" He was wearing a green Submariner Date. 2: At local WIS-style events where people are wearing similarly-cool pieces.

It depends if its male or female
Male usually react something like "wow, how did you get that? paid retail?" and if at retail "where"....
Female, in 8 out of 10 cases would skip the above foreplay and just ask me "what are you doing tonight?". Thats the only reason I keep buying Rolex watches.. |

The wife has had more comments about the Tudor blue 79090 she wears than I’ve ever had any of the watches I wear . Best was when we were in the Rolex AD in NYC & I was trying on some different watches & the salesperson saw her watch & said can I please try it on I’ve never seen such a lovely watch, & then asked if she could show her colleagues the watch .

Only 2 times have my watch been commented on. Both times I was wearing a NTH.
How many times have a watch been noticed? Who knows. If someone wants the time, I pull out my phone. Or tell them to pull out their phone. I worked in a very busy place with guys around. Most watch talk I over heard was about smart watches, even though I know people who wear Tags, Omega, and Rolex are there all the time. But overall, no one cares. |

Someone noticing my watch doesn’t happen very often. When someone does notice…typically it will range from nice/beautiful watch, to, holy sh**…depending on the watch I’m wearing and the level of WIS that noticed it.

Here is an example of where I commented on a watch to a random stranger. At Vegas F1 last year I was camped out at a roulette table for most of the day and a guy and his friend came up to play. The guy was wearing what looked like a Patek 5740, and the friend had a black sub date.
Now seeing a Patek 5740 (potentially) not an everyday thing. So I said hey nice watch, is that a perpetual? He said yes, and then he lost about 2 grand in 5 minutes and left. His friend with a regular sub, no comment, and likewise no comment on the Santos I had on then. After they left the dealer was asking me what the deal was with that watch and why I asked about it. Thing is, nobody was “showing me their watch”. Everyone was wearing watches not showing them. |

Rarely happens, but typically these two questions:
"Is it a Rolex?" "How much did it cost?" |
