New to forum, apologies if this is in wrong topic.

Recently purchased a pre owned watch in excellent condition. I

noticed 2 horizontal marks on the platinum bezel.

It’s difficult to see in picture but it’s around the same shape/size as the scale and starts exactly where the scale ends (not sure if this is a coincidence).

I know it will soon get marked up much more but I have OCD with any scratches/marks that I didn’t cause myself. Especially, when it look more of a discoloration then it does a scratch.

Does anyone know what could have caused this or if it can be easily removed? So far, I’ve only tried to remove with soap and water.

The bezel is bead blasted to create that matte finish. Any repair work would need to use the same process. The raised numbers are then polished.

Leave it alone is the best advice. The matte finish can acquire those “bright” spots and there’s nothing you can do to make it better.

But…
Since you asked…and you just bought it second-hand…and if you’d like it to be perfect…and if you want to be sure it’s genuine, authentic, and unencumbered...then send it to RSC and it’ll come back perfect as long as it’s not on the theft list.

Not so, the RSC does it and there are also quite a few independents who can restore the finish. Not even that expensive.

OP, The picture does not really show if it’s a stain or a scratch.
If my bezel is dirty I clean it with a q-tip and aceton followed by warm water and dish soap. Works everytime.

Good opportunity to set aside your scratch phobia. Your watch is going to get slight marks and scratches through normal wear and the sooner you can learn to accept it and move on the better off you will be. Great watch by the way. Enjoy.

Most ADs say only Rolex can properly refinish the bezel on the YM. They have the tools needed to do the job right.

Thanks, I'm probably best off just leaving it alone.

Obviously, it's good enjoy watch and ignore scratches but it'd prefer it to be perfect when buying second hand.

Do you think those bright spots are definitely from natural wear and tear? I find it odd that both marks line up perfectly with the scale on the bezel and are also the same width as scale.

Repair maybe, I’d ask RSC for an opinion on that.
Replace at service (expensive - relatively speaking).

Leave it be … within a few months a new scratch will appear most likely

It almost looks like a stain, or maybe hard water runoff? I'd work on it some more with some dishwashing liquid and a cloth, nothing abrasive. If it's something that has permeated the material then it will probably be something that the RSC or an independent will need to help...if you're really concerned by it, see if the seller will take the watch back or give you an accommodation to have this fixed.

I sent mine to LA Watchworks and came back looking like new, think cost was about $150

Have refinished many of them myself, definitely not looking like a used bar of soap...

There is a local guy here in Dallas that has mastered the art of refinishing the ym bezel. Sand blasts it, then polishes the raised areas. But it will never be as good as new.
