Hi,
I know the story and about how J.F.K. told his aid to "get rid of it." A few months later he did the same with Marilyn and then the boomerang came back at him. I guess the moral of the story is that the candle that burns half as bright lasts half as long, or, if you play with fire you can get burned and they both did. Marilyn was dead 2 months later and J.F.K. was dead 5 months later. In the attached photo that was taken at the party after Marilyn sang happy birthday Mr. President to J.F.K. at his public birthday party it is speculated that he is chastising her for wearing a form-fitting nude colored dress that made her look naked when she came out on stage. Don't forget that for those days a dress like that was considered riskier and way over the top. (From left to right: Robert F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, President John F. Kennedy) Here is a link to the film of Marilyn singing Happy Birthday to J.F.K. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4SLS...eature=related Quote:

Russell Crowe & UK actor Ross Kemp with their Yacht Master's. There is a better pic of Crowe at the same press conference with his left had supporting his head & shows the YM beautifully.

Brad Pitt & Yacht Master. Not sure if he is really into watches as he has advertised Rolex & Tag but seems to be seen with a Breitling Emergency all the time.

James Woods pic reminded me of the episode o "Shark" where he had to trade the Daytona to get out of a Mexican jail. I pointed out to my wife that he was giving away about 10k. Pretty cute.

More on Brad Pitt...
Here is a cool pic of Brad wearing either a YG Sub with the Blue dial & bezel or a YG Yachtmaster with a blue dial. I cant really tell... I included a pic of a YG Sub that somebody suggested brad wore though most of Oceans 13. The thing I noticed is in two different scenes he is appearing to be be wearing the latest GMTII-C in YG. I have not had a chance to look more closely by I will. These two watch shots are from the end, I think...

Another Paul Newman magazine piece from the 70s where he is wearing his PN Stainless Daytona on a Leather Strap....Once again in Italian...I think?
The third photo shown below of the actor/auto racing legend Paul Newman showing off his Stainless Daytona, features John E. Brozek (author of The Rolex Report) taken at the Grand Prix of Saint Petersburg (Florida), on February 23, 2003. According to Paul, his wife Joanne bought him the Daytona when he started his racing career in 1972. I LOVE the fourth image of Paul holding up the Racing Trophy in 2005 because there is something awesome about the way the Daytona bracelet looks. In my mind this image illustrates why the Paul Newman Daytona is called the PN Daytona. It is unusual that somebody would hold their hands up over their head, but in doing so you see the Daytona from a really cool angle...it looks really masculine and strong. The first image of a Daytona by itself after the last two images of Paul Newman is a watch from Christie's Geneva Auction Lot 187. Nov 12, 2007 of a "Mayer Dial" that sold for $160,000. It is called a "Mayer Dial" because John Mayer bought one similar to it that is the image with the black background that came courtesy of John Mayer. I am a designer and I was so inspired by the PN Daytona I decided to have a dial and hands custom made, so I started trying to make it better and make it so I can put it on a current Stainless Daytona, which I like better in design and has a much sturdier build and overall better lines. The first Daytona with the Ferrari red dial sold at auction a few years ago for $300,000 US and today is probably worth more than $500,000, thus probably making it the most expensive and collectable Rolex on earth. The next watch with the white dial is the current daytona and I designed the dials and hands on the last four Daytona illustrations. If you want to see my Dream Daytona dials I am designing to make myself see this tread: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...=dream+daytona I designed the second red dialed Daytona dial and hands and am going to have it custom made, and I am considering turning it into a side business... I actually like the way the current subdials are laid out better on the current Daytona in the sense that they loan themselves better to the layout of the orignial Paul Newman Daytona and you see this if you compare the first Red Dial Daytona to my Red Dialed Dream Daytona. You can see that if I make my new dial, it will look better with the old school vibe...which I like better than the original.. In other words, I think my design improvements with the dial and readable hands make it look better and more functional. I just realized for the first time that Paul Newman must have two different Daytonas, because the dial in the first two images of him and the dials in the third and fifth photo are opposite of each other. The first two have a white ground with black subdials and the third and fifth image have a black ground with white subdials. This is really weird because I read that when John Brozek asked Paul Newman in 2003 why the Paul Newman Daytona was named after Paul, Paul said he did not know and could not figure it out, but the second image of Paul is from and Italian Magazine advertisement!?!? As I write this, I feel like for the first time I actually understand where the "Paul Newman Daytona" designation came from. Mystery perhaps solved!!!?!!! You really need to see the images side by side to understand. |

I agree!!!
This thread is just amazing to me!!!!!!!!!!!! I am enjoying just viewing it so much. Seeing all the people next to each other ads tremendous context to the content, and after all is said and done, context gives content its meaning. For the past quarter century I have been studying Rolex history because I was so passionate about the brand. Along the way I obviously picked up a lot of knowledge about the history of the brand, but I never had anywhere to look at it or anybody to share it with. For instance, I know the history of the name "Rolex President" came from Lyndon Johsnon wearing the Day-Date, but I also new the real genesis of the name "Rolex President" came from Dwight Eisenhower wearing his gold Datejust. I have been learning so much to, like the Marilyn Monroe Rolex President gift to JFK... This thread is also turning into a fascinating Rolex History lesson. I am shocked that Rolex, with its resources does not have something like this on its own website. I guess this is the "Open Source" Rolex Visual history. The other huge advantage to doing it this way is that we are building a Rolex history that can always be updated–unlike a magazine, book or movie. If we have gotten this far in less than 36 hours, imagine what this thread might look like a few years from now!!! As I mentioned in my first entry at the beginning of this thread, it is my fervent prayer to see this become the Definitive Photo Gallery for Rolex watches. I also mentioned I have seen a few other galleries on the web where you have to click on each picture and then hit the back button with NO discussion, way to update or add anything. This format is so much more interesting. Great work everybody. Let's keep it flowing... Jake

[QUOTE=jake;555951]
context gives content its meaning I've been a college instructor for 20 years. I've been saying this for 20 years. In fact, I just said this in my class tonight. The students don't get it. Solution: They all go out and buy Rolexes. P.S. I don't know who Danielle Lloyd is, but, so far, I like what I see. |
