Private event at AD
I was invited to a private event. No purchase history. What would happen?

I wouldn't expect anything. Nothing more than a showcase.

Private event at AD
People talk about building a relationship and getting to know your AD. This is an opportunity to do that. But they aren’t going to suddenly come out with a case full of hard to get Rolex watches and start handing them out for purchase. In fact, sometimes these events are no sale events (the registers are off). They will probably have exhibition pieces you can look at and try on, drinks, and you can get to know your AD. Maybe get on their radar.

Welcome to the forum.
I’ve been to a few of them over the years, usually centered around new releases. I always enjoy them. It’s a chance to talk watches with fellow hobbyists and there’s usually great food and wine etc. I hope you take the opportunity to go |

At my AD it is a gathering of potential buyers. We are shown special pieces exclusive to us based on our style or previous inquiries for a particular piece.
Sometimes its a opertunity to purchase a trade in at a deal or before listing for sale. Always worthwhile to attend. Shows interest and you may be offered something.

I attended an awesome private event at my local AD about two years ago. I had sporadic purchase history of small items there and the sales manager screened people ahead of time to vet for flippers, etc. Ended up being a very nice cozy event with local watch enthusiasts where we all compared watches, tried on a bunch of different exhibition items, drank nice bourbon, ate food, etc. Ultimately the goal was to gather a wish list from each attendee, with a verbal commitment to purchase and not resell.
Within about a month of the event, I got a call that they had one of the items from my wishlist and I went to collect it, also a very boutique experience with drinks and snacks. I'm not actively adding lots of new things, though they are still keeping my wish list of the other watches I'd ultimately like to procure. It was a fun time to get to know all the employees at the store, see their tools and how they work on sizing watches, cleaning watches, etc. I think it's a good opportunity and if you don't like it, you just leave. |

From the one's that I've been to - the opportunity to try on existing and new releases, appetizers, drinks and sometimes the opportunity of buying a new release (no guarantees on that but it did happen to me once).

I’ve moved away now but attended a few of these at my Boutique, always a trunk show for the new releases. The only one that actually had a few for sale was the Fall 2020 show when Covid had delayed the normal release date.
OP, you have nothing to lose by going and despite what others may say relationships do matter. Good way to get your foot in the door. |

Go and expect a good time seeing watches and making new friends. Whether a watch comes out of it is unknown.

Just go and have fun getting to know your AD and other watch enthusiasts. Don't have any expectations and you will not be disappointed.

Go and have fun. Was invited to one 3 years ago and AD allowed us to place orders for specific pieces. Was a very nice time and felt privileged to have been invited.

they usually run out all the special watches from the safe . You try them on. They put them back in the safe. Most of the watches sold that night had already been picked up and the transaction occur that night. You then glad hand and eat and drink their food! Night is over. Some people enjoy and some people dont!

My AD invited me last year. It’s a little preview of what’s to come, and probably won’t ever get. Nonetheless, nice event.
