How do you handle airport security?

I'm in D.C. & Philly for the week (HOT!) and when I was going through security at LAX the TSI woman told me I had to take my watch off and run it through the scanner with the rest of my stuff.

I continued walking as if I hadn't heard her and did my usual walk through the metal detector with my left arm slightly in front of me to keep it away from the detector sensors.

As usual, the alarm did not sound and Ms. TSI let it go, but it got me wondering; do any of you actually take your watch off while clearing security?

I've never taken my Rolexes off to pass through security....no way! Safest on my wrist. Luckily I've never been asked to.

I routinely take my watch off and put it inside my carryon (usually a backpack) with my cell phone and my keys. IMO, it is very unlikely that anybody would notice a sport Rolex in the first place. Too many other wannabes that look similar. If I had a blinged out all-gold watch, I might be more careful.

I used to take it off, put it in my computer bag, but not anymore.....just leave it on. If they want to look later, it just give me a chance to show it off, right?

Mine goes in the carry on before I get to security.
I never thought about it with my Citizen, it just went in the little bowl with my keys and change, but no more.

There's no magnetism involved in the detector that could throw non-parachrom models off?

Either way you do it I thought there would be some involved and always wondered.

There was another thread on this a few weeks ago. In that discussion I made up my mind to keep my watch on.

Just recently I've been in and out of airport security lines. Never took my watch off. Never was a problem.

I'm not as concerned with magnetism as I am magnetic fingers!

Never bothered me really.

I'm more worried about the xray scanners and my manhood showing.

I used to be in the school of thought to "never take my watch off". However, I travel quite frequently and often times it is international travel. I have been asked to remove my watch in a foreign country a couple times now after my bag is starting to travel through the scanner. I have had to scramble to try to make sure that my watch is safe, and not get scratched or stolen.

Now, I ALWAYS travel with a Rolex green pouch, and after I check-in at the desk I take my time and step out of line to fish-out the green pouch and store my Rolex in a safe compartment in my carry-on luggage. Never taking your watch off is a fine way to handle the situation, UNTIL you are asked to remove it. Then, you either have 2 choices...........Make a scene, or let your watch travel through being ill-protected.

I am primarily referring to international travel. With domestic travel, I believe you have a little more lee-way to stand up for your rights as a traveler. Outside the USA, it is a different story IMHO

Just some food for thought

I have DEFINITELY changed my mind, and I now ALWAYS use the green Rolex pouch.

It goes in a side pocket of my backpack before I put it on the X-Ray belt. I know it is human nature to buck the system, but in this particular case I just don't see the point. They have a job to do, I have a flight to catch. Not only do I take my watch off, I take the pen out of my pocket, the change out of my jeans, put my phone in a bowl seperate from my backpack, and remove my belt. I do things the same way whether I'm flying out of Kuwait or Dulles. I know, no drama, no standing up against the man. How boring. But I make my flights.

I always take it off and pack it securely in my jacket or carry-on. It seems a lot easier and risk-free to do that, than have someone draw lots of attention to it and then force me to put it in a tray.

I usually travel 2-3x a month and on those days, I'll either not wear a watch or wear a beater that I don't care as much about.

That is really good advice. I used to just stick my watch in my computer bag until I pass through, but now that I have a Milgauss I'm much more protective due to scratches. I work around (not with!) TSA everyday and more times than not a watch will not set it off, but if you are asked to take it off then it becomes a real PITA because you'll get a few scratches tossing it in the bin .

I never take off my Rolex or any other watch I happen to be wearing. If I see that TSA is making people take off their watch I stash mine inside my carry on bag and watch it like a hawk when it goes through the conveyor. I'm told that sometimes the sensor needs calibrating when it is too sensitive with metal stuff.

Generally before I get to the security check point I place my watch, wallet and money clip in a semi secret compartment of my carry on bag and after security I put all of it back on, just makes things easier.

I have traveled all over the world......i have never been asked to remove my watch.
As far as I know, watches are not on any suspicious list of items. I will show the person the watch and that I will hold them personally responsible if anything happens to the watch. They let me thru......
The only place in the world that I find hard a*s security is in the US.

Just wear it thru

Where does one get/purchase a Rolex green pouch? My DS sure didn't come with one of those.

Job I had up till about 4 years ago - I used to fly internally within UK 2/ 3 times a month & never any issues. The only issue I've ever had outwith UK was at Girona airport about 3 years ago when the security guy asked me to take it off & put it through in a box. I walked straight through & even though I beeped - said to the guy I wasn't leaving my watch unattended & he was OK with that. Kind of took me by surprise at time & never been asked to do it since

I have a special pocket in my briefcase that holds my watch during security. I travel frequently but have never even tried to wear a watch through the metal detector. A green pouch is a good idea, but all you really need is a small internal pocket where there are no other objects to scratch the watch.

Wear it! I've always worn it right through the detectors with no problem.
