President/Explorer II or Yachtmaster/Submariner?

Of the following 2 sets, which would you recommend?

A TT Yachtmaster and a TT Sub?

or

A RG President and a SS Explorer II?

I'd go RG DD and and ExpII. That way you get the understated bling of RG on a 'holy grail' watch and the funtionality of a tool watch with an additional time zone.

I don't see the point in having two TT watches that are essentially the same watch.

Great point - exactly what I was thinking!!! I think I'll do a trade in.....

Then I'll have to return to the forum as "President Explorer"....next time with pics....

Thanks for affirming what my gut was telling me!

The Yacht-Master and Sub are essentially the same watch, so there's not much variety there. Having a Day-Date in the mix gives you more variety. How about the Day-Date and a SS Sub, or Day-Date and SS Yacht-Master? (The Explorer II just never grabbed me, but of course we all have our favorites.)

Well, truth be told I have a black ExpII (the most versatile Rolex available btw, as it works great as a dressy watch - and I mostly wear mine on a strap these days - and it's a tough mofo tool watch, great for diving within 100m and for travelling with the additional time zone). Plus, it's not a Rolex you see every day.

While I'm generally not a fan of the DD, I think if you consider it, the best way to have it is in anything BUT YG. I prefer the silver metals, but I'm coming around to rose gold more and more. Certainly a colour you don't see every day and certainly a colour that 'those in the know' will recognize and appreciate.

Beyond that, best of both worlds. Two tough watches that can get you through any situation with aplomb.

I agree with that. I had a yellow gold Day-Date for many years, and I rarely wore it. I thought it looked beautiful, but whenever I saw it on my arm in a mirror, or in a photograph, I thought it looked out of place. So it became the first Rolex I ever sold. If I were ever to get another one, it would be white gold. I think that's far more subte, and less "showy". To each his or her own, though. Also, I tend not to like watches on bracelets with a suit anyway, so I prefer something classic on a strap.

Thanks to all for their advice. I am going with a RG President with a white roman dial, and an Explorer II with a white dial. Trading in the TT Yacht and TT Sub.

I will return as "President Explorer"....and will have pics.....

Stay tuned....

It's tragic that we couldn't muster the votes to bestow that title upon him two years ago. :-(

Well, coastal people in your country tried... but the folks living furthest from salt water seemed to want to keep him. Is there some corelation there???

I do like rose gold, but typically on watches with leather straps. Although the RG DD is nice, it's almost "too much iof a good thing" for me.

Hi Yachtsub,

Welcome to TRF. The DD/Exp-II combo sounds a much better proposition and a more practical one too....one very dressy watch and one very practical one too!! You can't go wrong with either.

Cheers - JJ

Excellent choices. The RG DD with romans is a beautiful dress watch. The only change I would make is to go with a black dial EXP (actually I would go with an all black GMT, but the black EXP is second best).
