Firstly Hi from a new Member

I recently have taken the plunge and purchaed a bi-colour sub 16613. Initially the waiting list put me off as I am a bit of an impulsive shopper so decided to use a non rolex jeweller to source me one.

He duly obliged and its very nice. A couple of questions :

1. It has the new style presentation box, was the anchor dropped when this was issued ?
2. It is a F serial number so although it was only purchased last month was this sequence of numbers only in use until April 2005 and should I have received a D serial number ?
3. Would this model have an etched crown at 6 o`clock and is it visible with the naked eye ? Or is it that my eyesight aint as good as it once was

Regards

Iain

From what i have picked up Yes the anchor was dropped recently.

the D is as far as I know the current serial prefix however the F is still around depending on when the dealer or supplier first got it. there is no difference at all between the two serials so don't worry.

Yes you should have the laser etching at 6 o'clock but it's difficult if not impossible to see without magnification.

I'm fairly new to these sites myself although I've owned my 16610 SS Sub date for about 3 years now!

welcome!!!!

Well its hit and miss if you get the anchor, they are likely to disappear soonYour watch should have the etched coronet, you will have view it througha 10X Lupe glass, and in a certain angle of very good light.Don't worry to much about a F or D its not that important, welcome to TRF Iain.
F from Sep 2003 to March 2005.
D from April 2005

Congrats on a nice watch.

1. I believe the anchor was dropped withthe new models.

2. The SN does not mean that much, a D or F is fine in the model you have. The serial numbers are kind of strange on Rolexes. For example a Day-Date may have a very old number in certain models, like platinum. But for your sub, a F or D is fine. I would not worry about it too much.

3. You should have the etching on the crystal. My suggestion is to hol the watch at an angle. Have the 6 o'clock position facing away from you. So the 12 position is closest to you. Then take a strong light, superwhite led lights work the best and shine it right on the crystal.

Enjoy your watch.

Great watch - congrats!

I didn't get an anchor with my D-series Sub in a new box, so don't worry about it

What's that about a waiting list????!!!! - here in London the bi-colour sub, blue or black, is in nearly every dealers window (different story if you want the 16610 though!)

Enjoy your sub, great choice

Thanks for the welcome and the prompt response. In answer to your question I decide on blue. Both blue and black are nice but a friend has black one so I went for blue.

Really pleased with my watch although I am in a bit of a dilema. Do I wear it as an everyday time piece or use my always reliable seiko kinetic and keep it for special occasions.

When I made a general enquiry in Glasgow jewellers they never had one in stock and spoke of waiting lists . Sort of put me off , a friend mentioned someone he had purchased a Raport watch winder from and he also dealt in fine watches. I spoke to him and he sourced one , dealers stamp is Watches of Switzerland Bond St London. So the suplier made money , the chap I bought it made money and I made myself happy so overall a pleasent experience.

I liked the watch that much and was also thinking of a Daytona but as they were quoting several years waiting time unless you want to pay a premium . So in the end I bought theSub I have put my name on the waiting list for a bi-colour Daytona Cosmograph.

A great BIG welcome to Mac and Ian on this forum. Ian, you've chosen the right colour, that's for sure. I once owned the TT Blue Sub, but later upgraded to the TT Blue YM.

Anchors have stopped with the advent of the newer box. You've probably got a very late F-series, say for e.g. F-987xxx or something like that.

The laser etching will definitely be there. Use a 10x loupe under a reading lamp and you'll see it.

Wear that beauty in good health.

Cheers - JJ

Waiting list for a 2-tone Daytona? - not in London

That's interesting that the watch came from a Watches of Switzerland in Bond St.

I work around there, and the AD's always have a lot of stock, in particular 2 tone models.

This thing about waiting lists is rubbish I'm afraid (with the exception of the Steel Daytona) - the dealers just put them in the window!

Take a train trip to London, you'll return home the proud owner of a 2-tone Daytona, at list price, no problem. Actually, if you pop into Mappin and Webb (owned by Watches of Switzerland apparently) on Regent St, they have a choice of 2, one with diamond dial, one with white, I was drooling over them at lunchtime today on my way back from the pub!

If you make it down, I'll buy you a pint (actually, if you can afford a daytona and a sub in a week, you can buy me one!)

Cheers and happy shopping!!!

HI everyone , thanks for all the help and warm welcome. It was a good shout with the serial number. 998*** so it must have been one of the last "F" prefixes.

The daytona will have to wait until my turn comes around and the Jeweller phones and says pick it up

I cant beleive that I actually bought the watch , waited all these years and always had difficulty convincing myself that spending that amount of money on a watch was the right thing to do. I only have it weeks and I am now wanting another

So many fakes around was also an issue.I don`t go for fakes for several reasons primarily because it will be supporting things a lot more sinister. Although I have to admit that some of them are pretty damn good from a distance.

I`ll try and post some pics later
