Just cannot believe for the life of me all this fuss over a approximation when a case might or might not have been stamped.

I have a G serial submariner date non-ceramic purchased this year. I was surprised it wasn't an M or V series. Since it was from an AD I wasn't worried. I can see the value of knowing what serial numbers are out there to help in dating and validating a potential used purchase (albeit it can be faked). All the details should add up.
