Salary & Rolex

Having a hard time deciding if i should buy another Rolex. somewhat feel guilty about spending so much on a watch.

So to make me feel less guilty, I have a general question to the TRF members:

1) Approx. how much salary did you make when u bought ur most recent Rolex.
2) When did you purchase ur last Rolex.
2) What model Rolex and how much did it cost?

Save your pennies until you are comfortable.

Shop long and hard, find a deal that makes you comfortable.

With discipline, it can be done on any salary.

Thats pretty personal mate...I wont play!!!!

What I will tell you is that some spend their cash on cars, others on their house, some on vacations and some on watches......some are even lucky enough to do all of the above and more!

I indulge in watches. I dont drink or smoke or spend much cash on other things aside from the kids...............

Dont feel guilty....if you do it will wear off.....
good luck !

1) I think it's rather gauche to discuss such matters in a social setting...
2) 2010
3) 7200 USD

Beyond salary if I were you I'd look at expenses. Do you have any debt? Do you have kids? Are they at a private university? Etc etc

My first one was a two tone Sub blue dial in 1992 at that time I was making close to 40k a year... Today I make that on one deal and although I can pretty much buy any watch I want, I stick with Rolex.

There is no other watch I would rather have and I have tried on many different models...

i was a college student when i bought my last rolex, and it was 16760 ss gmt master 2 - aka the fat lady, and the total cost was somewhere around 4k, which isn't bad at all.

1. $0 / year
2. 2010
3. ~ 4,000

Ask yourself why you are feeling guilty first.

Who cares what I make and what I spend? Some people think I spends LOADS of money b/c I own a few decent watches. But they don't know. It is a personal choice that you need to be comfortable with. If you feel guilty, maybe there is a reason.

Now, I do get hesitant when I buy a new-to-me watch, but it quickly goes away. The hesitation/guilt is the question "Is this the right watch for me?" and not "Should I buy this b/c it costs so much?"

You can't ask people what they earn...well, you can, I suppose. Like an earlier response said, I am not playing though!

I have a better idea; how about if you tell us what your salary is and how much you'd like to spend on a Rolex and we'll let you know if you can afford it!

Not nearly enough. You see, I have been eating Ramen Noodles since I purchased my most recent Rolex, and will be for quite some time.

First of all, why are there two #2 options? Are you prejudice against the number three?

I purchased the GMT-MASTER II Pepsi. It did not come with a free can of soda however. Something I will NEVER forgive the seller for.

"How much does it cost, i'll buy it." Better yet; "How much is that doggie in the window?!"

You're going about this the wrong way, my friend.

Like everything else in life, if you have fulfilled your obligations, i.e. paid your bills, mortgage, the car is paid off, kids school/day care/extended day/extra activities, the vacation is saved and paid for, you have maxed out your ESPP if you have one, your maxing out your 401K contribution, you fulfilled the kids college savings requirements, there is enough to pay for the family vacation in cash, you have made sure that all the credit cards are paid off etc, etc, etc. Then, and only then, you may take the time to purchase a watch, even if better if it is a celebrate a life milestone IMO.
