Icon5 I'm an idiot. And have bad luck.

Crazy. I got my Explorer II back from service a week ago and was very happy.

Unfortunately when I reset the time I apparently did not screw in the crown. I remember getting a phone call and being distracted, so apparently I am just a dementia dip-shit. The crown was not pulled to the outer positions. I had pushed it in to screw it in. I did know this until....

Today I went to wash dishes with the watch on my wrist and for whatever reason as the water began to hit my wrist I thought, "Check the crown" and I immediately pulled my wrist up and low and behold, the crown was not screwed in.

Okay, so naturally I FREAKED the F out and began cursing myself. I never ever make such mistakes. The question is, am I worrying over nothing?

16570, caliber 3186, newly serviced. It was not submerged in water. The water from the faucet ran over it for maybe a second and not at full blast. It was rather mild in force. I grabbed a soft towel, wiped it off, have not noticed any condensation under the crystal.

I am 2.5 hours driving from the service center so.... Opinions, please.

It will be water resistant without crown screwed down. If it was pulled out to change time then you may have an issue.

“Dementia dipshit” gave a me a good laugh, thanks.

I think you’re safe with the twin-lock crown, that’s why we buy Rolex.

I've heard of people swimming with their crown unscrewed and it was still fine. As long as it wasnt in a hacking position, then I wouldn't worry.

Like others said, I think you’re good to go. Post later with an update and keep an eye out for condensation.

Shout be no issue; the screw down crown is to keep the seals from being moved and broken while underwater. Padi56 (Peter) tells the story of diving with his crown unscrewed and because he was leading the dive he had to stay down. His watch was fine. Think of all those 100m watches out there which don't screw down; they are capable of surviving not only faucets but showers and swimming pools too.

If seals were replaced and you did not push the crown in our out while under water it should be just fine. Been there a couple times and no issues.

Thanks, gents. I cannot help but feel incredibly idiotic. The Polar is on my wrist and I will wear it until bed. If the crystal starts to fog, obviously I can bang my head against the wall. If not, I'll breathe a sigh of relief.

You will be fine, wouldn’t worry about it. Worst case scenario, you can get it dealt with.

Be careful doing dishes with your watch on. Scratched mine twice, I now remove my watch or have done it extra careful....

I think it's ruined, Matt. I'll give you $100 for it and see what parts I can salvage off it.

Heh. Well you are not likely to do that again. Just as when I dropped a new Rolex watch to my foot and thick carpet in 1987. The scare instilled that I never do that again, and I haven't. Looks as though we both came off OK in our slip-ups. Stuff happens.

I'm an idiot. And have bad luck.

Definitely fine under a tap especially on recently serviced.

Did same thing on a newly serviced 116710 and showered with crown out, that was 2 years ago.

Haha funny reading through your freak out session. It's fine though, there's a gasket in there and I'm not 100% as I can't remember the depth but all Rolex are water resistant to an extent with the crown unscrewed.

I did this before - washing my hands without the crown being screwed in. It wasn't a problem, there wasn't pressure to push the water under the crown.

Just keep an eye on the dial - if there is no condensation on the crystal, you should be fine.

You're fine. Even unscrewed the gasket system has you covered. Now if you were 50 meters underwater, hmmmm.

Splashing = Zero issue... and with just-serviced new gaskets you're good.

Just don't let it happen again young man

Yes, you are worrying over nothing.

Leaving the crown unscrewed does not provide an open hole to the atmosphere, there are still proper seals inside the tube to keep everything water tight. Especially if you just had it serviced.

NEVER.....wash dishes. Too risky, man!

You've gotten good advice. I think you've beaten yourself up enough to atone for your sins.

The only way your watch got moisture past the opened crown is if the watchmaker used the wrong gaskets for the stem & tube.

But if you can’t get the foggy thoughts out of your head, grab a bag of rice, leave the crown open and put it in a bowl crown side up, pour the rice over it to cover the watch, and put it in a warm dry spot overnight.

But I believe you are fine - some of our OCD aquaphobic members would have you believe these watches will melt at a sprinkle.
