Resale is $250,000 so it's super rare.

I’m waiting for mine to show up. Hopefully they discontinue it immediately after that.

Why so you can flip yours right away, like the onyx DD40 you got?

Haha no I don’t flip, but who wouldn’t want their collection to maintain or increase in value over time?

Not a matter of who would/wouldn't. Many of us just don't care. Highly recommend trying, it's liberating.

I know about one AD sale locally -- bundled with ~$200K of jewelry.

I guess that’s easy if you’re really wealthy. If you’re not, then it’s an asset you might need to sell in the future.

I don’t care if a $10k watch trades for half, I do care if a $100k watch trades for half.

LeMans is free money as long as they don’t overproduce it. You can wear it and enjoy it as much as you want “for free”.

Nothing pisses really rich people off like something they can't have. Makes me chuckle thinking about it.

Not because I hate rich people, but human nature applies even to those with significant means.

I feel the same way.

I like a good exit plan.

LeMans if it’s produced in very small numbers is almost perfect. You can wear it as much as you want, enjoy it, and then if you ever feel like getting out of it you’ll be in good shape.

The delta from unworn to worn might be $50k though. Better to buy a Daytona gray and throw it away (potentially)

Maybe but at MSRP you’re looking at getting more than you paid for it as long as you don’t destroy it.

Meh, I wouldn’t find his wish that a piece he owns getting discounted is “plain ugly.” The worst case scenario there is someone that still wants to buy the watch at retail is SOL. Big deal, cry me a river

On the other hand, what I do find to be “plain ugly” and disgusting is when people here wish for an extreme economic downturn so they can more easily buy watches at retail. In that scenario the worst case is millions of people out of jobs or underemployed. Now that is truly a disgusting wish just so someone can get a watch at retail.

... the irony is that watch premiums are a symptom of the same zirp-charged asset bubble rising tide that lifted the complainers' stock "investment" portfolios to a point where they would even contemplate buying a Daytona, retail or otherwise.

The moment covid hit it was "I don't care about watches I just want my big number on the screen back!"

My AD told me they've had 1 so far. Apparently Corporate made the call on who got it and it was someone with spend history of approx. $2m.

Makes sense. My wife thinks I don’t have much chance but I’m holding out hope.

I was mostly kidding anyway just to get a reaction, although I wouldn’t complain if that was the case.

I haven’t had a problem getting watches at retail because I’m not new to the market. I’m at zero on AP though.
