This is actually much better than the original contribution IMO.

I have put in online bids for both the Sylvain Pinaud Origine and Auffret + Petermann Bedat collaboration. Hopefully it goes well but if not, charity wins.

Both are amazing but that Sylvain Pinaud Origine is the one I’d really go after if I had the money. Hope you get the winning bid!

Thanks! Both are nice but I will be getting the production version of the Origine too. The PB/Auffret is truly one of one, and the finishing has signatures of all 3 watchmakers

Ahh I totally forgot you were already getting a Origine. In that case I hope you get the PB/Auffret. It would be a killer addition to any collection.

Sorry you didn’t win. Was really rooting for you. But my god those are some insane numbers. A real win for charity but never expected some of those to go as high as they did.

I've always wondered if in some countries the delta between "appraised value" and what it actually goes for can be considered a tax deduction to a charity?

For example, if a piece is estimated to go for $50k by the charity and sells for $150k instead, can some people claim a $100,000 donation?

In the US, there's something similar with art where if you buy it and have it appraised at a higher value, you pocket the difference in imaginary donated $, it's pretty cool.

If so, it changes the math a lot for some bidders.
