Where do you insure your watches is it through your house or do you have just one for your watches, if so who do you use. Many thanks

Mine is insured through normal house contents insurance, they will add it to your policy and send you new paperwork. I pay an extra few pounds a month for it.

Whatever you do check the policy properly.

A lot of places will add it to the home owner policy for theft out of the home only. You have to cover it out of the home and I would advise trying to get it covered for accidental loss or damage as well. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

Added mine onto my home policy.

Cost £40 a year for full replace value of £4200 and they index link this so valuation goes up each year in line with inflation/price rises.

You wil generally find you can insure quite a few on an all risks basis through your home insurance.

I use Aviva and they allow me up to £25k of watches through the home policy.

I do the rest through TH March.... But its a fair bit more expensive.

Hiscox do similar but charge an extortionate amount to begin with.

I came across them when Googling Watch Insurance and thought great as they say

"Individual items worth up to 15k each are included at no extra cost"

Did a quick quote on a like for like basis and they wanted

£1400 a year for a new policy (am guessing it was lower than renewal as an incentive)

We currently pay £400 a year for the same thing with extra high value items added via More Than/RSA.

TH March look interesting. What kind of valuation do they require and what value are you declaring for discontinued models?

Both my watches, GMT II 40mm and Explorer I 36mm, are discontinued so I'd prefer to insure for the cost of the equivalent new models rather than what I actually paid (less than £3k each).

I've just this week removed both pieces from my home insurance policy because the insurer required a valuation and I couldn't find anyone who would a) provide me with a valuation and b) wouldn't take the watches away for a month to do it. So I figured I am paying for a service I can't use and thus wasting my money.

I have a few discontinued models, if I lost one through theft etc I would want to replace with a used example not the new model equivalent, most quality independent Jewellers should value each piece for around £40 each, maybe less or even zero if they know you well.... Mine does. My 16600 is covered for £8k because they are rising in price from reputable dealers all the time. Amanda Epps at TH MARCH will sort you out 01822 855555.
