Tudor Revisitation

I own a Submariner date 116610ln and a Daytona 116520, will never part with these. But recently picked up a Tudor Harrods and a Tudor Pelagos 39 - WOW. Great watches, fun to wear, tremendous value for what you pay. Absolutely recommend looking at Tudor, won't be disappointed.

Tudor makes some cool things like an actually thin sports watch for an affordable price (BB54 which I own) or the above mentioned FXD.

What I strongly dislike - and I'm far from alone in this - is their avoidance of competing with Rolex, and the annoying things that come with it. BB54 comes with slightly yellow lume and silly fake rivets on the bracelet, which are the reasons I'll sell it once something better is available. There are many other things like a slightly uncomfortable bracelet (it's okay, but I don't feel any sharp edges on Rolex watches) and a quick adjustment that's unusable for me because I need to set it at maximum length (Rolex glidelock is longer than a full link, allowing quick adjustments for any wrist size). Other people would point out different things, but over time you'll notice these things and they deduct from the experience.

Did you see the new Tudor 'Submariner'?

The new Coke is totally great as the ceramic avoiders should be happy.

Adjustable clasp, easy to make bigger / smaller.

Offered in both rubber and bracelet and i believe you can order either separately.

Imho Tudor out-Rolexes Rolex as of recent :)

PS: The new Coke is also METAS certified.


So guess that begs the question, who is saying Tudor is not 'competing' with Rolex? How so? Specifics please.

I owned the original Tudor Black Bay "Smiley" back in 2015 - Too thick, sold it quick.

My next watch is a Pelagos 39 - Seeing what Tudor has done in the past decade is incredible.

For some unknown reason I had never been a real big fan of Tudor watches. However, last year I was intrigued by their BB 41 Burgundy and decided to pull the trigger when it became available - I got the 2nd one allotted to my AD last summer. It’s a great watch, I’m extremely happy with it, especially at the price point. I have absolutely no regrets and would certainly recommend them if they have something you think you might like.

Always buy what you really like, Rolex is Rolex and Tudor is Tudor IMO..BB58 remains my favorite for now.

I like to diversify and have watches from the likes of Rolex, Omega, Breitling and Tudor. I have three Tudor's and love them all. I really like my Opaline GMT on Jubilee. So much so that I also ordered one for my black GMT (Uncle Seiko using the Tudor clasp). I also like my Panda Chrono on leather.

I cited very specific examples. In addition, it “only” took 12 years for Tudor to release a Black Bay that arguably competes directly with the sub (same color scheme, reasonable thickness, similar feature set). I’m quite sure they didn’t delay it so long by accident. There’s nothing wrong in providing alternatives (I prefer black bay over the sub due to lack of crown guards), but some of the examples I mentioned make the experience worse than Tudor surely is capable of providing. That’s an entirely reasonable viewpoint to the original question.

You're right Taura, it took Tudor time. Of course no need to 'clone' Rolex, as Tudor does deserve its own brand identity. You do make good points, and great to see Tudor now stepping it up.

Picked this one up the end of February and it hasn’t missed a day on my wrist. It was so nice to walk in, ask to see it and buy it without the BS.
