Can spring bars mess up lug holes?

I have a 39mm Explorer I like to put different straps on from time to time. I recently got a leather strap that is pretty thick, so I put it on with curved spring bars to avoid scuffing the leather when it rubs against the dial. However, I noticed the curved spring bar makes kind of a clicking noise in the lug hole when I put the watch on.

Over time, is there a possibility this seemingly imperfect fit of the spring bar into the hole would wear the lug hole and make it slightly bigger and thus loose when I put the regular spring bars back in?

I put the regular spring bars back on. I’d rather scuff the leather a bit than cause wear in the lug holes. But maybe my concern is unfounded and no harm can be done.

Thoughts?
