Upgrade DD40 WG Blue to Platinum Galcier
Thinking of upgrading, for those that have done this, any regrets? I have the blue dial and would be going to glacier. Main concern is that the weight might be uncomfortable as a daily. Love the WG weight, is platinum too much of a good thing in that respect?

Go for it the platinum DD40 is incredible I prefer the baguette dial but you can't go wrong regardless!

Any Rolex feels comfortable when sized correctly, in my opinion. One of the watches I regret not purchasing was the platinum with the quadrant Roman dial with the smooth bezel. The WG DD40 blue is a gorgeous watch, and unless I wanted something entirely specific from the platinum, since the platinum changed to fluted bezel, I'd keep the WG DD40 and perhaps purchase something to compliment it.

I’m fortunate to have both WG and platinum DD40s and there really is no comparison. The WG is much lighter in weight and darker in color. The platinum just pops. But wouldn’t do the fluted bezel in platinum. To my eyes that just looks wrong.

I have the WG blue dial and would not trade it….having said that it would be tough to turn down the platinum, but IMHO I would probably keep the WG and hold out for a platinum Daytona. The WG blue dial DD may not be for everyone but I for one would be sad to not have it in my collection. Would be a tough call.

Thanks, sounds like the weight as a daily is not an issue for the folks that have it.

Go for it, just a little heavier than Gold, and just as comfortable.

You will notice a difference, but you do have a WG. If you went from a SS datejust2 to DD Platinum, then its a massive jump. Do it!!!! And for me, its the smooth bezel.

I have a DD40 platinum with fluted bezel + diamond hour markers and I love it.
It definitely has a presence on the wrist but I would never say that it have felt uncomfortable. Perhaps if you are swinging your arms or something and it's sliding down and hitting your hand constantly, that might feel weird, but yeah i'm not playing baseball with the watch either hahaha. |

Upgrade isn’t the right word in my opinion they’re so different. I would really wanna have both. Unless you’re really bored of the one you have of course then it’s a no brainer :)

I wouldn't try to sway you, as I have a definite bias in this case.
But, I would strongly advise you to go somewhere and try a platinum on BEFORE you make that trade. You're going to read all sorts of replies to your question, but the only opinion that matters is how it feels on your wrist. |

I love the feel of platinum. It's almost electric. You do know you're wearing it, but it's definitely not too much.

I have a 40mm DD and a 36mm DD. Tried on the new Platinum 36mm with diamond markers and it honestly didn't feel that much heavier.

Add into the mix sizing a DD can be problematic, well, it's an even more complex issue. (Although not impossible- there are 1 1/4 links available to help, but as you can imagine, the platinum version of those are 'yikes' money.) Since you tried one on and got a good favorable first impression, I would think you're okay with taking the plunge, but man, I would hate to let that WG DD go...it's such a great watch on so many levels. If there was a way to just add the platty, that would be the way ahead for me. My two cents. |
