Strap was replaced for free by Beverly Hills AD

Hi All:

Sorry to revive a thread on AP Forum about Richard Mille (however AP made RM possible so there's a connection), but I wanted to relate a happy conclusion to the mishap with my watch band. And also to alert forum users who have older RM watches to verify if their bands are glued or bonded.

After I got my spare band installed it developed a different problem--sticky black stuff oozed from the edges. At first I thought I got chewing gum on it. But it kept leaving black marks where my wrist rests on my laptop that were sticky and hard to clean. Ugh. The next day it got really bad--every edge of the band was black and sticky.

I emailed the watch shop in Carmel I bought the bands from to alert them to these phenomena and ask for their recommendation. They emailed back immediately an offer to sell me a new band for $450. I also emailed the shop in Beverly Hills who sent my watch in for service (not related to the broken band) and got an unexpected response. That AD told me the old bands were glued and the new bands are bonded (there appears to be more material where the titanium plate is inserted) and offered me a new band for free!

It just arrived via FedEx from Torrance. I mention Torrance because I have been there and it's a very prosperous commercial center, but not where you would expect to find anything related to Richard Mille. Nonetheless confidence in my little watch has been restored and I will wear it with impunity--or until I find that ideal AP.

Cheers.

Hi Thomas

I did not find the screwdriver, but bought it on eBay per recommendation of Evitzee on TZ. Now I feel I can wear my watch and not worry. Hanging out on Rolex Forum makes me ponder getting either an AP or Rolex not that my sock drawer needs any more watches but just out of curiosity.

Maybe I should concentrate on fortifying my library and acquiring some useful knowledge for a change.

Thanks.

RC

That makes sense. RMs look more like gizmos than watches. Also most prefer circle based watch cases. ROO is an icon of the watchworld for good reason. If my wrist were slightly different shaped I would probably prefer wearing an ROO, but the smaller RM is a perfect fit for me in terms of comfort. An added bonus for me is that nobody else on the bus notices.

i like the rm chronos because they look to me like no other modern watch on the market currently. but 6k just for a service! sheesh, for that price you could get a nice manual speedy pro.

I love the iconic and distinctive octagon shape of the APs. But not a fan of the RM case shape however.

Love Richard Mille, love the Renaud y Papi connection, would love to own a titanium RM11, would hate to spend $6K on a service.

thanks for your valued opinion Heru my friend
i am keeping the Grand Prix for sure; the carbon, strap, dial, size, and the extra bracket opposite the chronos all make it my top watch .. honestly cannot see myself getting bored with it

as you know the BB was sold to free funds for a car
the RM011 Ti is a great, great watch and i would love one BUT despite the price being steep i find it to be a bit similar to the GPC in many factors; hence the RM010 Ti is more suited to my needs and rotation

I have smaller wrist, IMHO as a daily beater, RM16 (roman) is one of the most comfortable I own. Will share some photos when I am back home ;) Get the one with rubber strap, I wear it for golf, swimming and jucuzzi. It works perfectly for the pass three months.

Good luck with your new acquisition Mate! James

I'm really not feeling the black case I am afraid Mike.

I think you could regret buying it in a few years down the line.

For me the RM's really suit Tit/WG/Pl - if you get one get it in one of those 3.

Mike you know i moved the BB to ease the purchase of the F430
and now i can honestly say i would move the 430 in favour of an RM035

to be honest i feel RM is kinda being overlooked and in part it is his or their fault with the strategy of ambigiouty and the whole talk of $6k services and $250k watches
yes $60k and $70k are ridic prices
but so is $45k and before it $20k for our APs
to me it is more of an ENTRY price

the RM011 seems to be the biggest hit but personally feel those two are especially overlooked:
RM029 with the big date
RM030 with the on/off and power reserve

Love my RMs, I love the fact that almost noone knows what they are but are always complimentary. Here's my 11 Marcus Edition:

conkers,
incredible watch! huge congrats and enjoy it in the best of health. what other RMs do you sport?

updates: i've been quoted on a bnib RM029 but price was such a turn-off, it was very close to what i've seen a RM030 Black Night (LE 25pcs) go for.
good thing is that although i've been lured into many 'black' RM watches (RM030 B Night, RM035, RM011 Carbon, RM010 B Knight), i can proudly say i see none of them offering MORE than my carbon grand prix .. not in the 'black', not in the contrast, and certainly not in the red-accent departments.. (ps: i am not shopping in that price range yet)

good news is that this confirms and cements that what i still want is a "silver" watch, namely Ti for RM.. with a bit of a skeletonized movement..
sure, since we are on AP forums, the Millenary 4101 is a RIDICULOUSLY INCREDIBLE DEAL of a watch that ticks all the right boxes AND adds Roman numerals to the mix .. but the purpose is more casual, sport-related and fitting to my lifestyle so right this minute i am continuing riding the RM wave which i've been surfing for nearly 2 years now

only question is do i want to dish out AT LEAST DOUBLE what i could get the 4101 for? i will conclude with this:
if someone were to tell me right now trade your GPC + cash for this RM030 Ti, i would have to be very very careful as to how i should proceed

Thank you! I am down to two now, as I just sold my RM028 and RM035. That only leaves the Marcus and my 005WG. I am having a huge clear out of a load of APs, a Jaeger, an IWC and a Hublot too to make way for other things. Of the APs, the Legacy and Novelty Rose Gold gone in the last couple of weeks (the latter to someone on here!), 57th St and Gentleman Driver are on sale, the Novelty Platinum I will keep probably.

All change! I get bored quickly!

excellent!
do you mind if i contact you via pm as i have a few questions regarding the 035

also
can you shed light on the price of a rm030 ti?
the LE 25pcs black goes for similar to a 035
but the "normal" Ti i cannot seem to get a quote on
i did find an RM029 which its price has opened the door to the 035

it is now down to 010 ti vs 035 for me
but i NEED to learn what a 030 Ti fetches so i am not left wondering what if and leaving anything unturned

Stick to your plan and get an RM10 in white gold or Ti. The only other RM I would consider is the RM 11 with your collection. I am wearing my RM 28 today, not to everybody's taste but comfortable.
