Yikes. That is steep. But like many have commented already, if the watch is a keeper the extra links don't matter as much. Maybe be on the look out for a them online to see if you can purchase at least 3 at lower price point. Sorry this happened :(

Wow, 5 platinum links = a complete SS Submariner, that's a mind bender!

Sorry for your theft, but at least you have a beautiful fitted platinum DD. If you plan to ever sell you'll probably need the links. Others have provided great suggestions to get links potentially cheaper. I do agree those prices are shocking.

Enjoy your DD in good health. Cheers!

That's what I was thinking too.

On my 228206 (the one that was stolen) I never removed any links it fit me fine.

However on my meteorite 116509, I had them adjust the bracelet clasp (did not remove any links).

On some of my Rolexes one link has been removed.

I am not a huge guy but I have solid wrists, maybe from years and years of wrist exercises while weight lifting.

Anyway, losing the links...definitely a tragedy. But not a Greek one! (Losing the entire watch, as I did, now that's closer to Greek.)

So, look on the bright side of that you lost the links versus the watch!

As far as replacing the links, you'll need to buy them one at a time from gray market watch dealers. Some of them deliberately remove one link every time they sell a watch. They disclose the -1 but somehow it's worth it to them as they off the link separately, and the buyer doesn't discount the purchase price much. The price such dealers will sell you a link for will be below Rolex retail. There is one in particular I can think of on Moda who is known for that.

If you’re not planning to sell, I can’t see any scenario where you would need all five links. If you’re worried about the fit, you could probably get by with just purchasing two links to adjust for swollen wrists in the summertime.

You should be able to buy unused 2nd hand links for about £1000 each. Make sure they have the ceramic inserts though.

The price quoted is not outrageous. Having the full set seems important for you, since you took the trouble to request a quotation from your AD.
The watch looks great.

Honest question. When I bought my watches, I was fitted immediately in the store and my links came home with me in the Rolex box (box and papers if you will). Did they take everything or did you have a different process?

Great watch! Try your home owners insurance. In the US most policies cover stolen jewelry items up to about 10k without any other riders added.

Since you do not need the links, I would hold off for a while. But it is nice to have the full set, so maybe buy one at a time, along and along with no rush.

I'm aware, it was a poke at the OP as his profile says his location is Sydney.

The AUD to USD exchange rate is terrible. It doesn't make much sense to buy the links in the states vs. back in Australia. You'd be paying significantly more otherwise and especially since there's no tax refund in the states.

Platinum DD 40 with baguettes on your wrist, not seeing any tragedy but too bad nonetheless.

Tough pill to swallow.

Really curious as well how everything unfolded and your bag and links got stolen.

Looks like OP flaked after the initial post. Just wear the damn thing. If and when you trade or sell it, just know the watch is worth that much less. Pay no or pay later.

For what they charge for sales tax, buy from an AD in a state without sales tax and have shipped to you.

In fact, the OP posted 3hrs before this one of yours. Not a rant, just sharing in the spirit of communication.

I do agree with your advice. If the OP needed to remove 5 links, then just keep the watch as is.

If it is sold later, that's when to consider a remedy.
