Watchout Big Scam on TRF Right Now!
Recently a new scam involves a member on TRF sending mass private messages to members, especially those with watches for sale. In this private message is an embedded link. Once you click on the link, the page prompts you for your TRF username and password. DO NOT ENTER YOUR PASSWORD AS THE PHISHING PROGRAM WILL STEAL YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION.
EDIT: LOL-X The link is deceptive it may look like a www.RolexForums.com link but it is in fact something very different that can result in the theft of your personal information. DO NOT CLICK ON LINKS unless you are 100% sure you know they are legitimate. Last edited by Lol-x; 12 August 2011 at 05:13 PM.. Reason: Original account has now been restored. |

Thanks for the confirmation. I offered to buy the Air King you supposedly listed, based on your reputation. 'Kanger' didn't bother to respond, probably because I said I'd be using paypal. watchcollectorca's account has also been stolen.
FYI, take a look here. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=189250 |

Don't worry, I'm not. I even looked at the PM I sent 'you', and see that I fat-fingered my email address. So the scammer doesn't even have that. Get your account back and then you can help me find my next Rolex.

That's very scary and quite and quite a security breach if clicking on the link caused that.

The scammer apparently replied to my question about the authenticity of Omegas just a few minutes ago!

Why was this moved to the watch out section when it concerns the Trf community as a whole?

May I suggest shutting down Kanger's hacked account. Also to potential buyers, request a picture of the watch with a piece of paper next to it showing a requested time/date and name.
I've seen this done in the for sale section at the request of the mods before and should help weed out the potential scammers.

I think it should be a rule for anyone that whats to sell a watch to date and name a piece of paper next to the watch for sale. I know I did this when I sold my Exp. II few months back on here. We need to band together and protect each other on here.

To the imposter Kanger that hacked into his account. You think you are smart but you don't know who are you dealing with. We have a digital footprint of you.

These cyber-scams are incredibly dangerous to us because they have very little risk to them if they're careful about it. |

I just read this thread and I know it is against the rules for that sort of thing to happen, but I found the imposter's comments quite amusing. I bet he is a script kiddie, one who uses prescripted hacking tools without knowing a thing about hacking. I'm glad he's gone.

Let's just agree to disagree. I completely condemn what he did, I just think that if this scammer was smarter he wouldn't have drawn so much attention to himself. I mean, the Watchout board takes out much more difficult scammers than this guy, so who was he thinking he could fool?
Glad the SOB is gone either way. |

I am sorry that this is my first post on this forum ever...
I am a lonely collector of watches, living in Norway. I am active on the Norwegian forum, but haven`t got "the balls" to post here before today. I have watching though, for the holy grail on the sales forum (vintage rolex - tudor). I thought I bought the explorer from 04 today, I know, 1.500 is a LITTLE to good to be true, but...... I sold a couple of my forum friends for thirty silver coins (thinking about selling it again of course). I even see that it was "onhold", should think that a scam maybe would try to catch as many as possible.
The seller is on vacation and I am asked to use westernunion instead of the usual bank accaunt. The phillipines by the way. I ask for confirm of the referances and then I see that the post is deleated and seller banned. I am awere of that the real owner of the nick is inecent of course - poor guy, builiding his cred for some years and then this happends. Anyway, glad to be here, I am learning a great deal about the watches we all love so mutch. Take care... |
