Would you trade...

Would you a trade a 214270 Explorer 1 MK11 for a vintage Datejust ref 1601 “blue Buckley” with the original oyster bracelet and box and papers? I’m sure everyone on here knows but the Buckley dial characterized by its painted (not applied) Roman numerals. The watch is for sale on theoandharris.com and the photos are from there as well.

Nope, I prefer the 214270. However, I dislike two tones and Roman Numerals, so ymmv.

I think I would be inclined to stick with what you have, that DJ is beautiful but from the photographs it look as though the spring bar is showing definitely on the top left lug and possibly the bottom right if you look closely, could have had an aggresive polishing job to make it mint. Also the bezel looks a little too crisp for something of that vintage? I think I would prefer something a little more honest and original, keep your Explorer

I would not but I'm a modern reference guy.

That's like trading a modern GTI for a Karmann Ghia.

What you lose in modern conveniences and reliability you gain in charm from a very specific niche product. Just depends on your taste I guess.

I think you would seriously regret going ahead with that deal in the future.

I would keep the Explorer. If you're interested in Buckley dials, there is another TRF member selling his DD with a white Buckley.

My thoughts exactly!
Keep the 214270, it's a solid workhorse and save up to add a vintage DJ in the future. There are so many out there that it should be easy and shouldn't cost you close to what a Explorer costs

Never. And I love my vintage DJ. Keep the Explorer and pick up a vintage DJ. They are so different you will miss that Explorer if you do that trade

I would not trade the Explorer. I might buy the DJ and add it to the collection as it is a cool watch.

I'm not a fan of that Buckley color combo, so I'd say no. For a white one...maybe.
