Sea Dweller Bracelet Link Removal

Hi,

I purchased a Sea-dweller in 1997 - at the time I had issue with my wrist and arm muscles and the watch was not centred properly so I took it to the Rolex service centre in London during the same year. In order for this to be centred, they took the fourth permanent link from the watch bracelet at the 6 o'clock side - they did let me know that of course the link would be destroyed in the process. A few years later when my situation with my arm had changed, I added one of the removable links that came with my watch back to the bracelet. The first 3 links taper down to the new fourth link but there is a noticeable difference in the tapering as it meets the fourth.

Now, 23 years later I am at a point where I am looking to get the watch bracelet serviced at one of the reputable third party bracelet restorers.

A few questions from this...

- is the resale value of the watch dramatically reduced given the original link is not present in the bracelet?

- should Rolex have given back the link when it was removed, even though it was presumably in pieces? I was never given this piece back by Rolex. I should have asked at the time but assumed it was beyond being able to be used again. Only in the last few years have I realised that but it could have been restored back by a bracelet restorer.

I will also give Rolex a call as I would like to check the history of the modification, just in case.

Many thanks.

It will not substantially affect the value of your watch.

No Rolex was not obliged to give you the permanent link back to you and told you that anyway.
