Any thoughts on Chrono24?

I’m giving up on the “lack of commitment” to getting me the watch I want from my AD. Any one here have any thoughts on Chrono24?

Thanks

Make sure you do your thorough research on the dealer. I would check out Bezel as well. If possible, go to some local dealers that are recommended by other folks and see the watch in person.

Bottom line is don't chase the lowest price.

If you want to be sure you are getting a quality, genuine watch you need to buy from a good reliable dealer and you have to be prepared to let them make a good profit.

Unless you are experienced and confident enough to self appraise a watch.

Chrono 24 is just a platform through which you negotiate with resellers. Like eBay. So, buyer beware…..

I use it to browse and it gives me an idea of what certain watches are selling for although some prices appear to be aspirational at best

As Cru said, it’s just a platform that connects buyers and sellers with some layer of buyer protection.

If you find a watch sold by a real shop (often the time), check them on other channels (google reviews) and vet their business outside C24.

Chrono24 is just a marketplace. You have to buy the seller first

Use chrono24 and ebay to find the watches but try and go visit them if possible and buy in person, altho this thread is quite positive on ebay and their authentification.

It's a decent shop window. My rule is to always buy the seller even though C24 offers a degree of buyer and seller protection.

On the two occasions that I've bought a pre owned Rolex I started by searching on C24 and ended by negotiating directly with the sellers outside C24, which got the price down in both cases. I will only approach established sellers with physical locations where I can view the watch in person.

As stated above, the asking prices (as opposed to what the watches may actually sell for) are overly optimistic in some cases and the lowest price isn't always the best deal.

Expensive.

Despite this, sometimes they are the only source for finding a particular watch. However, even in this case it is trued that most of the time you will find the same watch cheaper in the seller's own (online) store.

So many of the listed watches are not actually in the sellers possession. They are listed and then if you try to buy they will try to sour. Buyer beware.

Second on this. I got my Sub via C24. The escrow process is straightforward but the percentage that C24 charges sellers causes the price you pay to rise. If you have the ability to purchase it in person from a seller yo found on C24, I'd try to do that. You'd only pay applicable sales tax & not C24 fees additionally.

The draw to C24 is that the payment process is quite secure. Neither buyer nor seller can have both watch & money at the same time. There are the same inherent risks to buying something online, though. If the product is misrepresented, or if the seller is otherwise untruthful, you still run into a problem. The secure money aspect of the platform is a plus, though.

C24 is full of over-inflated watches. The only thing I like about the platform, personally, is the escrow service.

The escrow service is pretty good and that at least covers you if the watch doesn’t meet your expectations. I’ve used Chrono24 only once and the transaction was flawless. I used it because the watch I wanted I couldn’t find through any trusted sellers.
