ESQ Watches? Good? Junk?

Someone asked me about ESQ watches. I've never heard of them.

Are they any good? Are there any forums links for these?

Thanks.

ESQ are what most here would consider it a low end brand. I do not think they make anything except quartz watches.

I heard ESQ is a division of Movado...I was told at Macy's once that it stands for Exceptional Swiss Quality...I couldn't help but snicker.

Yes, Movado produces the ESQ line and they are the lower end. The company use to go by Esquire, but shortened the name to ESQ a few years ago for marketing reasons. Personally, I'm not a fan of them. They seem to have a lot of problems with the bands. Oh, and as for water resistent.....be careful....most of the chronographs will leak. If your friend is thinking about buying a watch in that price range, I'd suggest a Seiko, Citizen, or even an Tissot. Just my 2 cents.

It stands for "Esquire" and they are lower-end Movado Group quartz movement watches. Nothing exceptional about them. If you have money to spend, buy a decent Japanese watch (Seiko / Citizen).

In addition to my Sub and GMT, I have a ESQ chrono. Nice watch for the looks but, indeed not a tool or one I'd feel comfortable under water with.

Decent though and have had it for nearly 3 years with same batter and no loss in time. Gotta love the quartz...

I too love Seiko when looking to go affordable automatics

I get Seiko or Citizen instead of taking a chance with lesser watch.

Well, I used to own one, a tournement, I gave it to friend as I had had my use out of it and he needed a watch.

I really think the term "Junk" that is being used here really is not accurate.
Yes it is a bog standard Swiss quartz movement in most of them and yes there are a lot of other very worthy watches out there but I have to say I really liked mine.

It was solid and a good weight to it. It felt very well made and was very accurate and the second hand hit the markers bang on.

I would not pay retail for one but for what you can get them for for discount I think they are a worthwhile buy for a swiss made watch (yes most of the metal bracelets are made in China but they are of extremly high quality if mine was anything to go by.

My friend loves the one I gave him and gets a lot of complements on it

ESQ is a lower quality division of the brand Movado. ESQ doesn't even make a mechanical, which from a swiss brand, is pretty low end. I mean, C'mon, Timex makes an automatic.

Quartz does not equate to low end! JLC,Cartier, Girrard Perreguax, Omega, and Rolex(in the past, not sure if they do now!) make quartz watches.
The one in my Constellation is an exceptional piece of technology being thermocompensated and perpetual calendar with accuracy (in my case) to +5 seconds a year!

I have a quartz Citizen that is both eco drive and mechanically actuated flyback chronograph, over half that watch is hand made in Citizens high end specialist watch plant in the Japanese Alps.

These things are not low end and having owned an ESQ it might not be a WUS's cup of tea but to a lot of folks it is well made, accurate and does that thing that all good watches do..Tell the time well!

It really amuses me that some folks think of quartz only in terms of what you get on a street stall in a market in some dodgy end of town!

Rolex made one of the finest quartz movements ever made, highly accurate and beautifully put together.

Oh yes, and one last thing, before making a statement, make sure it is correct!
ESQ do indeed make automatic swiss watches!

Not a bad price for a Swiss made quality watch! And I stand by quality, the casing, bracelet and fit and finish are really good in my experience!

Heh, whoops.: I guess I'm like one of the people who like brand name things. My mistake. I don't have anything against quartz movements, but ESQ is not my cup of tea. Oh, and the Automatic ESQ to me looks like a TAG Heuer Aquaracer, in my opinion. My bias doesn't count. Its your guys opinion!

True, while ESQ is a low quality watch, I personally have nothing against them. I remember 10-12 years ago I (at the time was very young and didn't have that much money) decided to buy my mom a gold ESQ watch for Mothers Day. She loved that watch, and the only maintenance it needed in the 7 years she had it was a new battery. Now she has a Tag. link model (gold/stainless) that is about 100000% better lol

It is what it is. A good watch for under $200 for a swiss quartz movement. If that's what you are looking for, its the watch for you. It is a fashion watch line so buy it for the style, not for the quality and craftsmanship you'd demand in say a Rolex.

I have had one for about 4 years and it is a good watch for the money. Esq is the lower end of the Movado company but they do have good quality movements.

information on esq watches

ESQ watches are made by Movado. esq watches have swiss movements including ronda, eta and isa. Whats interesting is that a $1500 quartz watch has the same movement that an ESQ watch has. So are ESQ watches any good? There better then good. They are a great buy!!

I have an ESQ watch and inexpensive watches such as Fossil, and everyone of them is a 100 times better than my Rolex watch, which in my opinion is a piece of junk. In the 30 years I have had it, it has only been usable for a couple of years. For the past 15 years it has been in the bottom of my jewelry box. My husband has had two Rolex watches, the first was good, but when he upgraded, he got what is in my opinion a lemon Rolex, it won't keep time, gerrrat watch concept. I think ESQ is just fine, it keeps time, isn't that what a watch is suppose to do?
