Gmt ii
I have been trying for a year to find a GMT II at an AD. As a pilot it’s the pinnacle of watches. I have an oyster perpetual that is my everyday watch. Am I crazy for trying to obtain a GMT at retail with only a OP? You won’t hurt my feelings by saying yes. My friend in NYC said his AD said there are no more GMTs being allocated for the rest of the year at retail. Has anyone heard anything?

I sure hope not. I'm still waiting for my wife's batgirl, and we only purchased Tudor and did a service at this AD that I'm waiting for.
Which color bezel did you ask for? |

Good luck! I have three GMT's - the latest I just got in January and the first one I purchased in 2019. The VTNR (Sprite) I just got I was on the waitlist for 2 years. The other two (CHNR and BLNR) took an average of 6 months. People will tell you they know how long it will be, but nobody really knows. The availability - judging from the forum - is getting better. I suggest getting on the waitlist at multiple AD's - there are any number of ways AD's manage their waitlists - and this will increase you chances.

Thanks! That’s reassuring! I asked for any as gmt. Beggers can’t be choosers.

I just went grey market. How much do you want it? Sounds like you really want it. I am assuming grey market is too steep? (About a 50% mark up) It is what it is.
For me I just realized paying retail was just not going to happen and for me I considered it a false choice - if I wanted a GMT the price is the grey market price. |

I’m going to give it some time and see what happens. I do really want it, but I just don’t feel comfortable jumping into the used market with out putting forth a noble effort at the ADs.

If you buy a diamond for around 30-50k you could probably get it in 3 months

I can understand the attraction of the GMT for a pilot they are brilliant watches maybe for this one you might have to go grey or have you considered going backwards and going for a 5 digit reference 16710

Is this the AD who said Rolex was going to kill the PEPSI this year?

Keep bugging your AD. Persistence, enthusiasm, and a good attitude about extended wait times will pay off.

I have a polar, but the latest gen black wears smaller, and more like jewelry. I love it. Should be easier to get than a GMT and is more masculine, imho. This might lead to a GMT for the next watch. Also, the black exp2 looks good on rubber, so you don’t have to worry about banging the bracelet reaching for stuff in the cockpit.

There is always the chance that one will turn up at an AD and the watch gods will bestow it upon you. Not likely, but someone has to win the lottery so why not you. I would use the wait time to research the various models and styles and try to level it down to your personal preferences. With that information you can monitor secondary prices and trends. I would look at the previous generation Black GMT that came on the Oyster bracelet and was discontinued in 2019. This watch can be had as a complete set for around 12K and it is great looking. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum
It might depend on which GMT you are looking for. A BLRO will be next to impossible, but you might have better luck landing the others although still difficult. IMHO, you should take a look at 16710’s from the early 2000’s. Solid end links, sapphire crystals, holes or no holes cases … best of modern and vintage all rolled up into one |

This. The 16710 is probably the most versatile watch Rolex has made, with the solid 3185 or 3186 movement and the ability to easily switch bracelets and bezel inserts for very different looks.

I am giving my son my 16750 GMT BLRO as a gift for college graduation, I bought it 35 years ago for myself when I graduate. When we take it in to get it sized for him at my AD I will put my name down for a NEW BLRO to replace it. Guessing it will be a while....
Good luck with your hunt! Don't discount the 5 digit models, mine is 35 years old and still going strong. |

Your chances go up if you target a specific reference. "Any GMT" suggests flipper.

In my country, Malaysia, it is almost impossible to get GMT. I waited for sometime but no call ever received from AD. So a few weeks ago, I decided to get it at grey market. It was a batman by the way.

Thanks for all the replies!! Y’all are great, I’m going to keep chipping away at the ADs and keep my fingers crossed. I’ll report back with how the experience goes. Today was the second time I stopped by the AD and he once again took down all my info. He said they keep track of every visit. It’s actually pretty fun stopping by, kinda like going to a car show. 😁
