Sell 16610LV to fund 42mm Blancpain 50F?

Hi All,

I have a 2008 16610LV which has just come back from a Rolex service (service stickers still on the watch).

I tried on the new 42mm Blancpain 50 Fathoms the other day (titanium case on a rubber tropic strap) and really liked it.

The Blancpain AD offered me a 16% discount to buy the watch. This offer got me thinking about selling my 16610LV and using the funds to put towards purchasing the BP.

What are peoples thoughts on my idea?

Any responses would be most welcomed.

Thanks,
Darren.

Not my kind of trade, personally. 50 fathoms is fantastic though. If you want it, just buy it. See how you feel about selling the sub after a little while of owning both. That'll give you a better idea. If the love affair is over, it's over. Until then, keep the sub. Nothing like "watch-sellers" remorse ;)

Good luck!

Life is short and having a lot of experiences is all you can take from it. I would say if the 50 fathoms tugs at your heart strings you should get it. You can always get another Rolex in the future

IDK... Both dive watches but really different aesthetic. If you can swing it I'd add the Blancpain. They are different enough not to be redundant.

I’ve had the 45mm stainless which wore kind of big after awhile and the 40mm Barakuda which wore more like a 38mm. I got the 45mm brand new full set for 10k from a guy that wore it maybe 3 times before he decided he didn’t like it. The 40mm limited edition ones sell at inflated prices. I sold both of them. I plan on trying on the 42mm when I go to Florida to see if it hits the sweet spot, but will try to restrain myself from buying it for at least a year to see if the market decides its resale value will go down like the 45mm did since it is a regular production model that is priced too high for what it is. I couldn’t stomach buying a watch that loses that much value if I didn’t like it after a while and wanted to dump it. Your 11660LV holds more value long term than a regular production Blancpain. I would look into another direction to get funds.

I have the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe ceramic. Nice watch, but I never bonded with it. Resale value isn’t good, and two grey market dealers didn’t even want it as a partial trade.

That is a “add” watch as it’s resale value is bad and even better to buy preowned.

For me I wouldn’t do that trade.
If you like it maybe try and own both but I wouldn’t be giving up your Rolex for it.

That BP is a lot more watch for the money than the Rolex. Putting that value retention crap aside it's a pretty easy decision, get the one you really like.

I've had three Rolex divers: JC DSSD, SD43 and Submariner. Got rid of all three. BP is next on my list for a diver.

All about personal preference. Can appreciate BP, but generally feel the proportions are off and hence not my cup of tea.

The 16610LV is special (imo), and would for sure not rush that decision, based on someting you just tried yesterday / a good offer. Personally i would not do it

The BP is a nicer and much more refined watch.
If you have only room for one I probably would do the trade

The fifty fathoms is a nice piece, bought one a while ago for similar discount, wore it for while but then lost a bit of interest in it and wanted to move on to something else, I couldn’t even get 1/2 the price in less than a year.

If you like it go for it!

The BP has a nice looking movement but that is about as far as it goes.

Keep your 16610LV.

I would hold off and buy second hand personally, but wouldn’t be worried about letting the sub go. Not as if they’re rare.
Would be interested to know about what other Rolex you have, if any.

As others have said, save up the cash and get the Blancpain that way. By the time you have done that there will probably be bigger discounts to be had on the FF.
Your sub is too nice to part with imo.

I would only add the BP. It's a great watch but no way am I giving up a classic LV for it.

Do it if you feel comfortable losing money. Lv will probably increase at least in the long term where as the bp will fall like a rock. However, this is a hobby after all and hobbies cost money.

Tried the new FF and it obviously surpasses the Sub in every way except resale value. Those two aren't even in the same league at all.

Both fantastic watches. Don't know if I would be willing to do the trade / sell for the FF. If you could swing it without selling that would be the route to go, otherwise keep the LV (or maybe sell something else you don't wear)...

I would not and even at 16% off it is not a good deal. Look at the pre-owned market and see what these are selling for and you will have your answer.
