What is the ultimate 5513 and why!?
Hey all, so up until getting my '68 tudor I always thought (based on photos I've seen) that a Maxi Mark III was my favorite 5513.
After my recent acquisition of a '68 tudor though, I'm really liking a few things about it that prompt me to become more interested in older 5513s. Namely, I'm obsessed with the fat font insert! I don't think I could go back to a non-fat font insert now!!! Next, I really like the superdome...never knew I would as much! Always thought from photos that the superdome was overkill... but alas i really love it. Lastly, the semi-pointed crown guards and the twin lock crown. Love those simple accents. SO my new found appreciation of the vintage tudor has made me wonder if the late 5513 maxi III is really still my "grail" 5513 or not. Anyway, what is your favorite 5513 and why!!?? Please post pictures if you already have your favorite 5513 version in possession!

My favorite 5513 is the milsub as it rare and never commercialized.
Very difficult now to find one at a reasonable price :( |

Mine is easy .... 1964 SASR one known , one rumoured out of 16 issued just before deployment to Vietnam .... And I wish Rolex would hurry up and give it back :-)

Gosh Jed, that is a watch most of us could only dream of owning. Congrats, and can you please post pictures of it when it returns? Just a movement service?

If you can source an early Fat Font insert to match the maxi dial, it is stunning. And no need to say it is affordable compared to a 5517 Maxi dial that feature the same dial. |

In my experience, most of the time the Mark 1 is larger, even though the Mark 3 tend to touch the marks and form the lollipop. However, I have owned a Mark 3 that had the largest plots I have ever seen (feel like I am no longer discussing watches, but I digress)...anyway, it is possible.

So I will content myself with my 5513 Maxi dial which feature the same dial, manufactured by the same company for a very short period of time, less than a year (except for the printed circled T, you're absolutely right.) These Maxi I dials (both the 5517 and the "civilian" 5513) were manufactured by Lemrich, a company that went into liquidation in 2007. |

Put a Mark III beside a newer Sub Ceramic or a LV and you will notice that the markers are not so large, by contrast with the Maxi I. Notice on this picture that the Maxi I markers are the same size than the one on the newer Sub LV and Gmt Ceramic's dials. |

Well, seeing as I looked at many, and never felt compelled to buy any, since when I saw this I decided I had to have it, it must be this one....1977/78 serif dial. Especially love the patina and how warm it looks in direct sunlight!
